    Default Coleman Help

Yes I have watched the vids. Yes I have read the articles. Yes I have applied the skills to the best of my ability so far.

OK so the problem is that no matter how fast I get myself going I can't get my board to slide by "punching the parrot" while applying the skills I have learned. I can get it to slide no problem whatsoever by using my left hand (I am goofy footed) to grab on the rail a bit. What could I be doing wrong. I see that you are not supposed to grab if you are doing it properly. Either my trucks are too tight or I am doing something wrong. I did try the Coleman properly but when I am in the dropped position and my forward hand is dragging on the pavement I can't get the board to come around without grabbing it on the rail. When I tried without grabbing I almost killed myself. What could I be doing wrong. My board setup is as follows.
    LY Drophammer
    Bear 852 with Orange Pumpkins
Mini Monster Hawgs 70mm80a (which may be part of the problem)

THanks in advance for any help.

Make sure you look down the hill. Drop down, place a hand down, and aggressively throw the board around using your momentum. Try and jeep your weight back until your ready to hook back up. What this does is keep your trunks turning in the direction you want to slide(u have to think about it for a second)

Or simply get your back foot in a comfortable spot and when you start the slide make an effort to keep your front foot still and push your back leg all the way out and then suck it back in to do a very smooth coleman.

    Hope I'm helpin

Thanks so far. I will try tomorrow again. But to give more info. When I lean back and place my leading hand on the ground and then lean back and forward to initiate the turn and slide, my board keeps rolling straight. That is the problem. I will work on it more tomorrow. Any other thoughts?

mini monster hawgs are crazy grippy, from what I've heard.

While any wheel can be slid, many things would be easier to slide....

If you want to do it with no rail just push your front foot out and pull the back in. Or as long as you keep good form and don't grab stinkbug the rail makes it easy to keep leverage over the deck and bring it back around

That is a problem, since it doesn't sound like you're turning. When you're learning, you need to turn to initiate the slide, because its extremely hard to learn to just slide, you need to turn into it so you at least understand the motion.

carve hard! way hard. I found slides way easier on my shorter slide board (Rayne Agent) compared to my Demonseed.

have your hand a couple inches off the ground, start to turn and fold your back leg down then once your board starts to slide then use your hand to control the coleman from there

make sure you have your back foot setup to provide maximum leverage so you can kick it out, really utilize the concave on your board.

That was a big part of the problem. When I was down in the position with my rear foot flat and my weight over my knee and ready to put my hand down and initiate all this, I find it hard to turn heelside without grabbing the rail. Like I feel like as I lean back off the board with my hand down the board doesn't wanna lean with me and turn. So by grabbing the rail I am forcing it to turn. This is where I am having the issue. I am in the crouch position and then when I set up to commit to the turn my body goes into it but the board continues straight down the hill. I am missing something here.

It sounds like you`re not putting enough weight on you ground hand. Also, just before starting the slide, make sure your weight is over the front truck. And third, keep the ground hand as close to your body as you can, near your back.

My breakthrough moment was dropping the rear knee ONTO my board before initiating the slide. This takes a lot of weight off your rear wheels allowing them to break free easier.
The next important part was, as Blix stated, keeping your hand close to your body. Your hand is the pivot point around which your body will swing. The amount you extend your arm away from your body will determine how quickly you will swing out and back. Lengthening your arm away from your body slows the rate at which you'll swing out and back and it also makes it harder to get back onto your board off your hand, IMO.

Drop the knee, plant your hand, punch the parrot to spin 180, straighten front leg then pop up when your board is pointed back DH.

I had just recently learned the "proper" coleman a couple of days ago. One of the things that really helped me was to use the momentum of my body to slide as I initiate by carving a bit.

I got a question about the slide myself, would you be getting low for a heel-side carve then put the hand down and kick out?

Exactly. And then suck your bag leg in to bring it back around

you also need to roll your legs down on the board. otherwise there's a good chance you're going to highside.

This is all you need to know:
