Skate Wax On Slide Pucks?
I was replying to a truck noise complaint when this question dawned on me. Please continue.
I found a howto on making skate wax a while back. So, i cooked up some. It's great for pivot cups and bushings to silence truck noise. It's also good for coating on boards where wheelbite occurs to lube the braking caused by wheelbite, though it's not full proof, helps a bit.
how to make grind rail wax
So, basically you melt down and mix a 1:2.5 ratio candle wax:cooking oil and let cool in muffin papers so they look like giant Reese's.
I haven't tried it, but has anyone thought about waxing sliding pucks? You know, for an extra slippery action? It seems like it would also increase the life f the pucks by a few slides. I know you'd have to wax your pucks often, probably after one or two slides or every time you walked back up the hill at least.
Let me know what you think. Here in FL, slippery pucks are a must.

Re: Skate Wax On Slide Pucks?
Sound like a great recipe for slams for riders trying to carve where you laid down wax. They'd probably form a lynch mob, burn your house down, rape your sister, and hang you from the nearest lampost. That's only of course if they were feeling merciful at the time.
Me, I'd go for drawing and quartering complete with disembowlment while you were still alive to watch it happening to you.

^^^^ then i say go for it!
EC, you selling tickets to the medieval vengeance ceremony,
but really, it would work.... but why dont you try it first, see if it works, then start a thread about wax on pucks...

It seems appropriate enough. Florida was after all indeed under Spanish control during the Inquisition!

Re: Skate Wax On Slide Pucks?
wouldn't the wax rubbing onto the wheels murder your grip?
edit: for the wheelbite cure.
though that's a really smart idea.

Re: Skate Wax On Slide Pucks?
The friction that is made there, probably creates enough heat to keep a large enough amount of wax off of the wheels to prevent the loss of grip.

Re: Skate Wax On Slide Pucks?
Don't forget I'm in FL. It's hot as hell and you can cook eggs on the street. I don't think there would be enough wax on the street to effect grip in a flat land enough to murder someone and their family... Let's say I only meant for low speed slides. With that corrected, does it not seem potentially useful solution for flatland sliding?
EDIT: Also, it's sandy as hell here. I'd imagine the wax would wear off after a short distance. It is mixed with cooking oil so it's pretty soft and melts easy.

Re: Skate Wax On Slide Pucks?
There is no doubt that wax on the pucks would make them slide easier. How effective it would be is the key to determining if it were worth it or not. The only way to find out is to get out there and skate!

Re: Skate Wax On Slide Pucks?
Some guys down this way tried waxing an entire road at one point, said it made for MAD slides. As you keep skating the wax wore off so it got less slippery.

I think that delrin slide pucks are slippery enough....
I'd be upset if anyone waxed the hills I skate on.

Why doesn't some one make delrin wheels! That would be SICK!

do it and see what happens...make sure you film it, oh and have 911 on speedial cause ur gonna eat sh*t, they wouldnt have any grip, which would make it almost impossible to come out of slide
and ya the wax would make the pucks slide better but it wouldnt do you any good if ur wheels arnt sliding...in my years of sliding ive never had problems with my pucks not sliding, just my wheels...ive had problems with gloves hooking on rocks/cracks etc...but not sliding at least not enough to really make a difference

UMHW has been done. pm him for a set (i think about $40)

The toe clip idea is to have a quick release binding that doesn't get in the way of using the board as usual, mainly for jumping curbs while traveling around the city. Works great.
Each toe clip is two bars of metal sandwiched together. The bottom bar has cutouts in it to keep the shoe stub from sliding sidways out of the clip.
Here's a vid of both in action together:

I guess you didn't read the entire thread. You seem to have that problem, huh...
Anyways...
I'm skating on a shortboard with very very hard wheels. Breaking the wheels free is no problem. I do that nearly every time I turn too hard. The problem is it seems like my pucks are causing too much friction for low speed sliding. I got new Corian pucks, but I haven't installed them yet. I also seem to have to remind people, FL is flat. FL = Florida aka Flatrida. So, the hill comments are unnecessary.
EDIT: The heat melts my wax too easily. I'd have to reload them too often.
I think it's a bad idea after all. It's easier to get harder pucks than to keep rubbing wax on the pucks.
