transforming an old deck into a slider
ok.
so there has been a powell popsicle stick in my garage for about 6 years now, hasnt been loved in about 5 of those years. i thought id put it to good use. its about 8 in wide, 32in long. ive decided to transform it into a slider. it has no name metal trucks that arent bad for park riding but they will not lean... at all. so im gonna replace those. suggestions? are indys really the greatest truck in the world when it comes to pool and park and sliding? or is there some hype behind it? please enlighten me....
the bearings are all seized and rusted, so im getting some reds or black panthers from my local skateshop.
and the grip tape was dead before my feet even touched the board all those years ago. what grip tape is really coarse that isnt edger or vicious?
as for wheels i have a spare set of noskoolz that will be going on the deck once i flatspot/destroy the cheap wheels that are already on there. hows this sound? the deck is in good condition, no delaming or cracks. im not sure how long itll last being slid and abused, but it will be replaced by a drifter when it dies
PS yes i searched

Re: transforming an old deck into a slider
thats cool. I picked up an old variflex deck complete from a garage sale in about the same condition for $2 it makes a great sliding deck. I threw on some randal 180s and powell g-bones. hopefully I will get some indies to throw on
did somebody say hills?

Independents are the best.
No hype. Just 31 years of experience and improvement behind those trucks.

im going to the shop as soon as possible to get some.
in the meantime, the thing turns a little now that i have orange reflex on it, i had to use a longer kingpin, but it was worth it.
i took it out and ya know what i get? a huge ass chip out of the top few plys of the board oh well, a little epoxy will solve it temporarily, but i will probably get a drifter or a gravity from the skate shop

Re: transforming an old deck into a slider
You should consider drilling bolt holes in the tail and nose and mounting the trucks out there with some reversed wedges. It will break out easier because of the lower center of gravity, and the added wheelbase makes it a more controllable slide. I have one with Trackers and Superballs that I use as my main slide setup.
