well its not really that i think, what i dont get is how u almost completely unweigh your back foot, and slide your board 180 with somehow keeping your foot on your board, whenever i go more than 90, im on 1 foot and fall on my leg, and my board eats sidewalk

push the board laterally with your back foot, hang your heel off a little if you need to, and trust me, go faster

when i first started i was wearing pads, and i did fall off a lot, but i dont really wear pads when i try that, because the board would slide, either way too much or not enough, maybe im just freaked that im gonna fall

Wut?!!!? You are not making any sense. Pads don't affect your traction while you are standing up!

Re: stand up slide help
Go faster, imagine your ass levitating, get it low, and ease your way into the slide. At speed you dont have to rip it as much as you do inna tha slows. Go for the slight break outs before you take on the 90's or the 180's.

Re: stand up slide help
I originally learned speed checks before 180 powerslides. That really helped me get over the fear of falling and not committing.

I definitely agree. Frontside/heelside speed check slides are the first slide to master in my opinion. Probably the easiest as well. Helps you get your confidence up, get to know the feeling of sliding, find out about your wheels, and such.
I would recommend wearing slide gloves and a helmet at the least for any type of sliding. The first time I smacked my head on the pavement when I went into a frontside powerslide a bit too aggresively on harder wheels than I was used to using, I was sure glad I was wearing my lid. Still saw stars from that one. I'm fairly adept at sliding, but I wear full pads whenever I'm trying to get a new slide down.
Coleman slide is another very useful slide. I'd get that one down next before moving into other standup slides, pendys, technical sliding, etc.
Have fun.

Re: stand up slide help
when i standup slide i put my front foot completely on and a bit over my front truck.
to slide i carve, and when i feel a lot of G-force (a lot of pressure. when practicing a lot you know at what time in your turn it wil be the easiest to throw you board around) in the turn i commence my slide.
when i slide i put almost ALL my wheigt on my front foot (maybe practising riding solely on your front foot might help) and use my backfoot merely to kick the board. my backfoot is half on the board and half hanging over the rail, this makes it easier to get your board sideways.
and you say you stop at 90 degrees. i had this problem too in the beginning. it's just a case of determination. when you are sliding, just don't stop, even when you think you will fall. when you feel you are still stopping too soon, try to put your backfoot even more over the rail, this way you wil be able to generate even more sideways force. if this still doesn't help...... don't be a wimp! just kick harder!
hope this helped^^

Re: stand up slide help
And you can steer your slide. You wanna really bend at the knees before sliding and then by bending or unbending either knee you can move the board around. GO FASTER

what he said haha! seriously it's all about weighting and unweighting in the slides, almost like a little hop before you slide, bigger the hop the longer your board will be unweighted. and like any other slide, speed is your friend unless you plan on going sergio yuppie and busting 540s at 25mph.
check slides are seriously amazing, i got out a lot lately and only practice checks, the longer and smoother the better and more kick i get out of them.

Re: stand up slide help
So what is going wrong when I go into a standup check slide and I get the board to slide perpendicular to me ( I slide it 90degrees) but then I get knocked off the board because the front wheels won't break loose and slide?
