Re: I Hate You Sliders....
I was in the same boat with sliding but, just getting comfortable with going at higher speeds and getting comfortable crouching at those speeds really helps. I can only do slides with my bh holding onto my board as it helps me get back up. But in time I will be able to do lay back slides. Just gotta find time. Just practice riding faster and take your time. It will come.

I'm just gonna bug my friend to film me next time I get the opportunity to work on sliding than I can hopefully get people to critique my failings.
Also do pendys and toe side drifts always feel like you're on the verge of losing complete control? I feel so awkward and chaotic doing pendys and other toeside related moves.
Edit: I never could olly due to my legs never being reset properly after breaking my legs which is why I came over to longboarding. By 20 hours I mean 20 hours of nothing but trying to slide. Something like 14-15 nights of tearing up a Best Buy/Dunham's parking lot. :P
I find watching instructional videos too much is detrimental. Just enough to know what you SHOULD be doing really. Since everyone (including you) has a different way of doing certain things, too many instructional vids from different people may confuse you a little. Get a basic idea and experiment.

Re: I Hate You Sliders....
Do it in the wet on a gentle hill to start with, it makes the wheels much easier to break free, wear knee pads and start with toeside pendies, at slowish speeds the worst that will happen is that you'll lose your deck and slide around on your hands and knees.
It took me a couple of months to get them down doing a couple of attempts per day on the way to work, so don't give up! Also, if you can have someone who knows how to slide watch you and give you tips that's a great help. I wasn't carving in to slides enough to start with and once that was pointed out to me it made a big difference.
Good luck!

Re: I Hate You Sliders....
Ok I've been reading a lot about the Durian wheels that they're great for sliding especially to noobs.
I ride a legendary demon with a drop through, randal 180s, and the wheels are 70mm 80a S9 RF. Is there a good difference in ease of sliding between Durian and S9 RF? I also have tunnel tarantulas in 70mm 78a (they look damn sexy with my red legendary but I like the feel of my S9 better).
I'm planning to eventually buy another set of wheels so it ain't too big of a deal shelling out some cash for a new set of wheels.
Also I never see anyone talking about using epoxy glue for there sliding gloves is there a reason why? My gravity glove's glue keeps coming unglued despite drowning the pucks in gorilla glue and using literally 110lbs of pressure over night to bond them and it seems like epoxy would be 100% better than just normal gorilla glue (gonna try it tonight after boarding).

Re: I Hate You Sliders....
You already have reasonably slippy wheels, Durians aren't going to make a huge difference, keep practicing.

Re: I Hate You Sliders....
Dont waste ur money!! U already have everything to slide. Heck i learned how to slide on generic 78a wheels.
What kinda road r u trying to slide on? Try a smooth freshly creted road if u can find one. Also dont try to slide on roads with that tar ####. It'll grab ur gloves= not fun! Also if it rain take ur board out then. It help u break lose. Just remember to stay low!! I recomend a heelside slide for ur first slide. If u fall u land on ur ass. NBD!! Also another thing i have learned is the more pads u wear the bigger u balls get!
Hope these tips help u out!

Re: I Hate You Sliders....
i have a friend who cant do any slide for ####. he has been longboarding almost as long as i have, though i have put more dedication into it. i have given him all the tips i have, he has watched tons of videos and tries to slide every session but he cant do it. its not even a lack of balls, he just cant get the weight distribution right for the life of him. i used to press him to keep on practicing but it has gotten frustrating even for me. to make matters worse, he injures himself (lightly) everytime he tries.
i learned how to slide in a matter of months on an unsuited setup and i didnt really find it difficult. just goes to show that talent also goes a long way. sometimes its not the technique, the wheels or lack of trying, some people just dont have the talent for it.

Re: I Hate You Sliders....
reading this thread is bringing back memories, I learned how to slide on a gravity mini-classic (27" by about 8" with a small wheelbase) with I think 80something duro wheels, then I switched it up to sergio sliders.
I remember when I got my BE40 I was like "wow this makes things easier", I look at that deck today in my friend's dorm and I still feel puzzled that I learned how to slide on that deck.

Odd. im the exact opposite. I started off on my executioner and rode that thing until i got my be40. Now it has totally replaced my ex as my dedicated slide board.

I disagree...if your friend sticks with it, even with his lack of "talent," he WILL get it. That's kind of a depressing point of view to share with someone trying to learn too, "some people just don't have the talent for it" (IE: give up).

i dont share my point of view with him, i keep telling him he will eventually get it. but unless he seriously increases his dedication he will never make up for his lack of talent. its just like those skaterboarders who never learned to kickflip.

Epoxy often doesn't adhere well to plastics. I haven't dealt with this issue (gluing pucks)personally so my best advice is to try the search function.
