and i am commiting to the point where im just getting thrown off...can someone help me im not big on tricks and im learning...all i can do so far are cross steps, peterpans, lookbacks, and pressure spins. so yeah it would really help if someone just went out and took note of what they were doing and post it here

Re: Stand up Powerslide help
start out by going into a real hard carve and at the end of the carve slide the end out the rest of the 180

Re: Stand up Powerslide help
like the guy before try carving hard into it
compress at the beginning before the carve then decompress durring the carve and then recompress to pull it back in
and remember to wind up and punch that parrot on your shoulder

punch the parrot? anyway i can get the board perpendicular and thats it.... so explain to me the steps and break it down please... like after the wheels break loose where do i put my weight so that i stay balanced on the board when it eventually goes around

getting it perpendicular is one of the hardest parts
the problem you are probably facing is that you are recompressing too early.
and you have to remember where ever your shoulders go your board will follow.
for me i weight the front a little more to initiate the slide then i go about even weight durring the slide to get all wheels going sideways and pull it around and end slightly on my new front foot

i just explained this to another dude, but i want to help as many people as i can.
180 powerslides
*Remember to use your uper-body to get that torque started
*Swing your arms for the momentum needed to complete the 180
*KEEP your weight over the center of your board
*Carve into the 180. this makes things ALOT easier.
*Comit to the spin. Dont be afraid if your doing these heelside chances are you wont get hurt. always bail runnin, or rollin.
*be at least some what comfortable in switch, at least enough to carve in.
*ENJOY THE FEELING OF BEING ABLE TO DO THESE!!!!!
as far as set ups go-
you have a decent set up. the dervish is a great board or learning slides. i learned on a pin tail flex 4, then once i rode my dervish it was like i magically was a bad ass at sliding. its a great board for sliding.i rode on 78a wheels too.
the wheels are good wheels for learning to slide in. durians 86a would be better, but you can slide on any wheel.actually i think its good to practice attempting sliding on softer wheels you will rarely get a slide, but once you do get them some what consistently, switching to the harder stuff increases your skill level alot. i think alot of newbies to sliding go out and get the hardest wheels they can but then they cant get use to the speed the wheels slide at. with softer wheels you train your self in baby steps and get use to working your body for the slide. remember the effort you put into the trick yields the gnarleyness of the trick.
im goofy just like you as well. learning these heelside was easy because when you have to bail you just run/jog it off. you can learn these flat landed just get a little speed and go for it.
get stoked.

Re: Stand up Powerslide help
If you can go perpendicular, you can go full 180.
When you are first learning, try putting a good a bit of weight on your front foot.
Then, carve hard into it, and if your weighting is right, your front wheels should grip and the back wheels break out. Just get the confidence to spin your body around, and the board should come around really easy.
Once you get the motions down, you can center your weight, and break all four wheels out when you 180.

This^.
I'm still learning, but I'm starting to get my weight distribution, weighting, and unweighting down, and it's making it a lot easier, and I'm getting really close. I was originally told to not unweight my backfoot til after I was deep into the carve. After trying to unweight my foot prior to the carve, my back wheels started breaking like butter during the carve. Now it's a matter of feeling comfortable getting that spin. I break 90 degrees, and either get spit off, or reweight myself and the board sucks back in like a speed check. Committing is tough.

same issue here bro. my center of gravity is not centered over the board when i throw the slide, i think thats the culprit.

Re: Stand up Powerslide help
If your stopping at 90 degree it could be because a few diffrent things
1. your not unweighting your back foot enough, so the wheels are gripping half way through
2. you need to wind up a bit before, then as your starting the slide, rotate your upper body into the switch position. and whip the board around with you. (this will take some practice to get the timing down on everything)
3. you really need to commit with a 180, know that your going into the switch position and really commit to getting there, because if you half ass it, you end up highsiding at 90 degrees.
obviously speed can help, since wheels will slide easier. but with enough weighting of your back foot, and twisting of your body. you'd be how little speed your really need for a 180.
getting everything in sync takes a while, as well as figuring out how much to weight/unweight the board. I remember when learning 180s sometimes i would unweight my backfoot so much that i would lose the board. But after you get it down and practice a bit it will become extremely natural, and you wont even need to think about it.

I'm getting closer, haha. Like you said though, getting everything in sync can take a while. I'm trying my best to realize I may not learn this in a day, or even weeks time. But I'll get there eventually! Hours of practice daily, and no dice does get irritating though.

Re: Stand up Powerslide help
I got my toeside power slides down this week. You just have to lean forward ad rotate your body to get that twisting motion down that kicks your wheels out.
It helps to have wheels that slide well.
If you are really dedicated to getting these slides down, I suggest picking up a set of Gravity Drifters.
They are very very user friendly.

Re: Stand up Powerslide help
ok so im guessing that doin stand up slides switched would be exactly that right?
as in if your goin to do a switched heelside you have to set it up as if you were gonna do a toeside slide.
am i right or just completely wrong? cause i can do toeside and heelside 180s but once i do im stuck riding switch and i have to do like a sloppy coleman to get back and to look cooler and just so i know i want to lean how to do it switched. any help on that?
