    Default best slide puck material

    Which materials?
    1. UHMW
    2. Derlin
    3. PolyEthelene
    4. manufactured pucks, if so specify material if you know.
    5. wood (yes, i have been using scrap maple and it is not the best fyi)
    6. other, again specify

Post which you think is the best and why (please no double posts). It would be great to make a poll thread but i don't know how... i searched for a similar thread, but did not see one. i think slide puck material deserves its own thread because the "slide glove" is cluttered with tons of stuff.

    thanks.

I don't think there is one BEST material

I feel it is completely dependent upon the riding style, pavement, and more importantly... preference of the rider!
(on that note, my personal preference is Delrin)

The age old debate of UHMW-PE vs Delrin:

UHMW-PE is cheaper, lighter, softer, and lasts longer. I find this best for DH and soft wheel sliding.

Delrin is more expensive, denser (heavier for same sized puck), harder, and slides faster (i.e, slides farther). Best for smooth pavement + tech sliding

As a side note, (1) and (3) should really be combined into one. It's UHMW-PE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene). Also, it's "Delrin", not "Derlin"

You should list Corian. Also, there are a few threads just like this but many posts more informative... LOL. I'm not gonna say it...

that dark blue tactis material sucks. its good for the first layer of the puck. then its hella slow. Keith Henderson was all. "yeah i wear down a set of gravity delrin in six runs on bolinas"
id say from what ive ridden i like dark speed.
though anybody try those sugar cube slide pucks from New Zealand. the come in aqua blue orange and white.

Go to a Lowes and Home Depot and ask for samples of Corian. I have enough Corian to last me years. I've gone to 4 different Home Depots and 2 different Lowes in my area asking for free samples and I accumulated over 1 sq ft, which is about $45 a sq ft here. So, BAM! Free pucks! Leaves more cash to throw down on better gloves.

i love those pucks, but my lowes charges for them.... well actually they were gonna charge us, and then we were like its for longboarding, so he gave us the ones that they dont sell, cool guy, he said that tons of kids come in and that they should charge for that type..

LOL. I tell them my wife sent me in to hunt out new counters and she wanted corian to match the sink. I normally bullshit with them a bit about home design and claim my wife is very picky. The dudes normally agree and end up hooking me up with like 6 different colors of white... which most look the same to me. Then I leave. I wont go back for corian anymore at those spots.

I don't have a wife nor am I a homeowner... so... a little white lie wont hurt.

Reminds me of a story... My exroommate back home used to go in for a hair cut, he'd pull all kinds of stories out of his ass. Once he said he was a pilot and went on about this air show that was coming up that didn't exist. I was sitting down listening just cracking up. He is a BS artist.

FORGET SLIDE PUCKS! KEEP THOSE HANDS OFF THE GROUND! STANDUPS ALL THE WAY!

Cutting board works fine for me. Corian samples are just too small.
