    i respectfully dissagree.
some people have different sliding methods. im not putting down someones style but to some its different and in videos you should throw in some variations so the watcher doesnt totally lose confidence knowing that theres only one way to do it right.
I completely agree with the bold; thus, I would have to respectfully disagree with you if you are referring to racing, where the need to be fastest determines the best way to do everything.

I believe pilloni was refering to the use of his method as the fastest - not easiest or best feeling - way of slowing down. The less weight on your hand, the more on your board. With more weight on your board, you will shave speed faster (because of the softer duro of the wheels compared to that of a slide glove puck).
Since you can shave speed faster, you can now wait longer before needing to engage the slide, giving you the fastest approach to the corner, followed by the fastest line possible around the corner. This would put you ahead of the other guys trying to win.

For just messing around, do it however feels comfortable and safe, cause it doesn't matter. In competition though, there is always a "right" way; that way is always the "best" way. During racing, "right," "best," and "fastest" are always synonymous (not necessarily in preparation/practice for races though).

As for the last part, there is always a "most" correct way to do everything; the only reason the audience need feel discouraged is if they mind doing something only partly correct. Correct-but-not-the-most-correct-possible. No one ever does anything perfectly, so I don't see how one could be upset by seeing someone throw out near identical speed-checks or slides again and again.
I can speedcheck well, but not 100% perfect. My style isn't the best; it works, but it certainly is not 100% correct. Actually, no "style" is best, because "style" is just the measure of how far one is from doing it perfect. But as I was saying, I don't feel discouraged about my ability to slide when I see these pro's do it far better and different than me, I actually thrive on it.
Video's should show some action performed as perfectly as possible by the actor/skater/subject, and the viewer should dream of ever being so good; to not show action of something executed perfectly, solely to prevent the viewer from feeling discouraged, is a slap to the face of the viewer, striking them with one's opinion of their lowly ability to skate and reason.

    I love longboarding. Especially slope-style free-riding. Mmm.
