the wax looks like a fun idea but i dont think it should be used to learn on. just my opinion though.
That's how I learned to skate! After falling so many times, you just kind of instinctly know what not to do to keep your balance. Only time I bite it is when trying something new (me trying to do standing slides last week.... ouch) or when I'm drunk (very ouch... but fun).

Me and my friend just went out and waxed a bigger hill and we found out that you should beware because the board has a tendency to come off your feet. Especially when you do this for pendys.

IMO the time you spend waxing could be spend doing the actual trick. Also IMO you will be learning two different tricks, how to slide on wax, then how to slide on concrete going fast. Anyways as long as you guys are having fun keeping doing your thing!

It's not that no one sees the point of it, it's just that you're doing it wrong. If you want to avoid injury while you learn, don't go slow, pad up! Wear a helmet!

Skate on a hill with some speed, so that you can actually retain enough speed to carry the pendy through. Also what you're doing now is making things harder than they need to be. You're having to push, then get on the board, get your feet in place etc. Instead, skate a hill so you can just hop on and start rolling. Way easier to get ready when you don't have to push first.

Also, while you are learning your form and gaining muscle memory, you don't need to go crazy fast. You can slide going as slow as 15ish. Maybe even less.

Please learn to slide without wax. If an old geezer like myself can slide under 12 mph, then anyone should be able to

    p.s. this aint shredding

    Life is short, have fun.

Unless she's wet because she managed to get the last word in and you chunked your beer at her... in which case it's probably a good thing to be moving fast in a different direction.

I think even if it isn't really the easiest way to learn how to slide, you gotta admit it looks pretty fun. Haha

That's what she said, but she used "wood" instead of "board".

What's bad about that is that you don't learn what it's like to slide on real pavement, and it seems kinda uncontrollable. Whatever works for you though.

Thumbs up Re: The easiest way to learn how to slide!!!

Okay since my recent discovery of the uncontrollable board slipping out from your feet sliding a wax spot at a speed of like 15 mph or faster I have revised my assessment of what waxing the ground would be good for. So here goes the new version:
You and your freinds are hanging out on a hot summer day bored and tired from a couple long runs. You get back grab a couple of sodas (or beer if its your preference) and can't decide what to do. You don't feel like going out anymore to your sliding hill or a major bombing hill so you just wax a spot on the street in front of your house and mess around with a couple of friends and have fun sliding it.
So how's that sound to you guys??

Sounds like I waste of wax... I'd hate to be the guy out there under the hot summer sun looking like a dork rubbing wax on the street.

15 mph on a hill should be enough to slide enough to pull off a coleman... Are you guys using soft wheels or something? I can slide my 76a's on flat land; not a lot but some.

I would probably do this if i had the energy to actually wax a portion of my street....
You shouldnt listen to the bs about not being able to transfer it to pavement, once you got the movement and weight shift in your muscle memory, doing it on pavement will be pie.

    my 2 cents

NO where have i said that I cant do a coleman on that same hill because I definately can and I can do pendy 180s with probably under 5 mph its not in any that me and my friend dont know any of these slides its just its fun just messing around with the wax spots.

And were both using stock sec 9 wheels 64mm 78a

ya it really does teach you the movement. I know because before my friends wax spot I could not do a 180 standup to save my life (I still blame it on having a 40inch sliding deck) but I practiced on wax and after an hour I could do them without using the wax.
So I still might suggest this for Standup slides but other than that just to have fun with it.
