waxing seems kinda dangerous if you forget about it and ride over it the next day.

ive been practicing standy 180s for like 2 days on hardwood at home when my parents go to work. It really helps you get the feel for em. and i got them down pretty solid today while riding around

Yup. At first, you're wary. You're nervous. You try for 3 hours. Anger builds linearly, and eventually you throw all caution to the wind because you don't care if you get hurt, just that you go sideways (or possibly 180). You commit, and basically grab the road as far as you can off the board, and bam it all makes sense now xD

..At least that's how it was for me. Sergio Yuppie probably just leaned in a direction.

It's true.. UHMW wheels are an easier way to learn how to slide.

But the way I learned to slide was to use some old shortboard wheels. They work fine as long as there are no big cracks in the road, and slide so much easier than the big softies you two are riding.

The thing with the wax is that you are completely eliminating any hookup (where the board wants to be rolling in the direction it's pointed).. this is part of why you aren't penduluming.

The same thing happens when you're sliding on a bad flatspot.. no hookup.. it's more equivalent to sliding on ice than any normal slides.

Other alternatives to rubbing wax on the road.. get a bucket of driveway resurfacer. Or keep a lookout for spots that have used it. That stuff will double your slides with any wheel.. but doesn't usually have the wax/ice effect (it tends to hold oil and soap on the surface more than normal pavement.. so watch out for that.. car wash parking lots especially)

Here's the definition of 'penduluming' courtesy of google:

"When your balls get so hot and sweaty they hang down low and swing back and forth from leg to leg like a pendulum!"

when I was longboarding in dallas we'd skate the park at the downtown side of the katy trail right before the AA center and the parking garage at the sterling hotel was nice too....also there are a few hills and a ton of diches in denton.

I hate to be a fun sponge, but I have been beaten regularly with the stick of truth (also known as "Liability Training")

Before you get TOO carried away with the idea of waxing public thoroughfares, you might want to have a chat with a local ambulance chasing attorney on what will happen when some old grandma driving her '88 Buick hits your wax box, loses control and mows down your 7 year old neighbor.

Google "Negligence", and "Damn, some dude I don't know now owns my parents house and I have to eat Ramen for dinner every day"
    Ego veho, ergo sum

Used Buicks previously driven by little old ladies are the best deal going in the used car market. Those V-6's rule. I love mine!!!
