Sliding on a Pintail
Okay first of all, I have a 47" Pintail, Randal 180's.. and 80A O-tang 4Pres.
Funny thing too. I don't have griptape, i've been having fun w/o for the last .. 4 months.
If I were to go get griptape, would I be able to slide at all?

just because you have grip doesn't mean you can automatically slide.
but first things first (i know you've probly already heard it), but welcome to silverfish.
If i were you i wouldn't start sliding until you have grip cuz ur feet will slide off while ur sliding, and that's no fun.
also ur setup is basically the same setup i had when i started sliding except i probly had better bushings and i was on flashbacks
Longboarding's all I know and I got to do something

What?
How would putting griptape on effect your sliding ability?
P.S.
Stop making threads. This is what, your 10th? In a about 24 hours?

Re: Sliding on a Pintail
you can still slide an ungripped board
hang your heels for heelside slides or your toes for toesides, and you will grip the edge of the boardand you will be fine, but grip helps

i personly think that colmens are easier than toe side but most people will disagree.
you nee to get a decent amount of speed to slide, but since you don't know how i would suggest around 10-15 mph to get used to it.
you will squat and drop your back knee until it is comfortable.
you are going to want to grab rail DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!! this will **** you up forever
what do next is turn out and than back in and place my hand on the ground and kick out the backend. at first you wont be very good at controlling the board at first but you will learn to.
this is really all i can explain, because it's more of an experience thing.
so good luck and happy skating

because if you fly off your board, the only sliding you'll be doing is your face against the pavement
@Brian: grip that thing son! I'm sure you can slide without it, but its gonna be a helluva lot easier with some traction between your feet/board

Hehehe, well I meant in a negative way.
I certainly sounded like a dick in that post.

I learned by grabbing rail and now I can't stop doing 180s any way to fix this? I can't even shutdownslide, I just turn a full 180

i told you not to grab rail. lolz
what u r going to want to do is: grab rail down the hill until you get ready to turn than let go and use your arm to give you momentum to hook back up. by that i mean when you think you've got far enough throw it back and look over your shoulder get ready to push yourself up off the ground and push yourself up of the ground

I had the same problem for awhile. I practiced my slides using 97a wheels for a couple of sessions and my control of the slides improved. With that control you can hold the slides longer or do a faster 180s. Practice practice practice!

you can do two things:
-you initiate your slide by holding the rail and then let go when your wheels start sliding and put that free hand in the air and wave to all the sexy grannies you are sliding past.
-you just go past that little 'step up' and just start sliding with one hand free. important is how you hold your whole body while sliding. (watch some vids).
and with both these methods the most important thing to do to stop doing 180's is a good balance in the amount of weight/pressure you put on both your knees.
play around a bit with these things. you won't learn it in 1 hour.
here's a little vid to get started:

slap some harder wheels on it and itll be a lot easier. most people prefer a stiffer deck (not sure of the flex on a dreamweave) for tech slides but you can slide anything. if you are looking to buy another deck check out EW corchias and drifters.

Re: Sliding on a Pintail
you'll probably slide easier because your feet get a better grip on the board.

Re: Sliding on a Pintail
You can grab rail if it is more comfortable. Personally, I like to grab rail because I get more control when I do. It will also help keep you on the board since you have no grip.

You put your foot that far back? I position myself more towards the front, is that my problem?
