I think bertz are good at berts... but I can't be sure...

OH WAIT, JAY ADAMS RODE BERTZ(I saw it in a movie), therefore they are good at berts, QED.

I just need recomendations on wheels, trucks, and risers.

I want this to be a small setup that I could take to school and could learn to slide on as well.

Wheels: like D0 said, get some Bertz if you are going to do berts! or, any other hard wheel would work....

Trucks: Basically any truck will work, they play a small role in sliding....

Risers: Maybe throw some wedged risers in there to make it a better carver/cruiser. risers are mainly to prevent wheelbite.

Jay Adams most certainly can bert a few and is easily one of my favourite skaters, but no-ones berts are as nice as Stacey Peraltas.

i had these really good rollerskate wheels - "hyper rollo" or something they were called. they worked really well for berts.

i reckon pretty much anything is good - if you've got the move wired you can do 'em on anything. i prefer softer 78as though...

    dont think trucks matter either...

a shortish deck is good but longer feels fun as well...

berts feel awesome when you get a good one but don't get hung up on it - its not the only trick in the book!
