Default why is it so hard

I just got a sector 9 island hopper from gear guys stock . im tryin to learn how to slide but nothing seems to be working ..ive tried high speeds ,low speeds, toeslides, heelslides. is it just that the wheels are too grippy(which i doubt) or do i just suck at sliding...if either is the case any tips would be helpful. i love cruisin around and stuff but there are some hills i want to do but just cant cuz i would need to slide out to stop at the end and its killin me..im goofy if that helps on the tips ..thanks

Do you feel like you're committing, and just can't do it, or do you feel like you're bailing because of a lack of committment. Are you at all scared of sliding?

no idea..to tell u the truth i dont even know wut duro means im kinda new to the longboarding thing...tho i have done the hybrid thing...it doesnt realy matter that much anymore tho cuz i just did some slides for the first time like 5 minutes ago..i went out at 11:15pm to the end of my street and just decided not to come in till i learnd how..and i did it . i do have a few solid bruises on my ass, and a couple cuts on my hands but i did it...i guess jae key was right i just wasnt commiting enough and i wasnt putting enough weight on my hand instead i was keeping it on the board ..so yeah thanks tho and a deffinition of duro would also help thanks

duro is short for durometer. it's explains the hardness of something. the lower the number, the softer the thing is.

example: My kryptonics are 78a. My abec 11s are 98a.

My abec 11s are harder than my kryptonics.

Stock S9 wheels are HARD to slide. Also could be that you're not getting the board around enough. Try this- With loose trucks, go fast and carve real tight. If you go fast enough AND carve tightly the back wheels will eventually slide. Oh yeah this is done with hands on the ground.

yeah thanks for the tips guys...and for the deffinition . but yeah i ended up bustin out some old batting gloves and used them for a couple sessions and that let me get the weight i needed off the board onto my hand without gettin massive gashes.i plan to either invest in some gloves or make my own either way slidin is my new favorite thing in the world ..besides fruity pebbles...mmmmmm fruity pebbles .on that note im gunna go make myself a bowl. thanks

    only thing is...

the ollie only saves your life in a video game.

sliding is not a trick it is a skill aspect of longboarding that can save your life and make the sickest hill a canvas of style. imho

CarVe you get my respect for going out and doing it.

Agreed. BUT, just like in shortboarding, you see people trying things before they ever master the very basics.

I fully agree with that. The way I see it is carve, ride, slide, bomb. When I am riding with groms and they ask to learn sliding I explain just that. If you try to skip the basics you will be hindered in the future.

Sadly not everyone has a resource such as yourself to teach them properly. Fewer even have a wealth of information such as the fish at their disposal. I admire the riders out there carving with no basis of style, sliding with no goal and speeding on gnarly hills with no clue how their equipment effects the ride. To those about to skate we salute you.

I learned to slide before I learned to carve. I agree though sliding is not a trick, it's a skill. A skill that must be learned if you want to be an effective longboarder.

tho i am somewhat new to longboarding. i do agree that sliding is a great skill needed to be a good and safe longboarder. it already saved me today when at the bottom of a hill at a four way stop i had to slide so i wouldnt get smacked by a pickup .my previous way of stopping (footbraking) deffinitly would not have done the trick in that situation. carving and regular riding came naturally to me cuz i snowboard and i used to shortboard so i had balance on the board and all but i didnt feel comfortable going at higher speeds with only a small rubber sole bringing me to a stop . sliding was just the next step in my progression as a longboarder and im happy that i knew about the fish and i could get helpful tips on how to become a better longboarder.now that i can slide i have the confindence to be able to take on bigger hills and enjoy boarding more cuz sliding is wicked freaking fun

I also agree with sliding being the new ollie because a plain old toe or heelside slide can lead too a slew of insane maneveurs.
As for your question, I can slide on soft wheels but I have to be going atleast 25 mph and kick my leg out harder than usuall. I would suggest putting your old shortboard wheels on your longboard and learning on thos because they are most likely harder than the wheels you have now.(you did say you shortboard right?) well other than that just go faster.
