Default Longer or shorter board for sliding?

Hi, I'm currently getting into sliding, and I currently use just a run-of-the-mill toy machine shortboard. I can bust some pretty bad slides on it, but I was just wondering, as I am planning on getting a new board for sliding next week, would I better to choose something short, like an old-school Santa Cruz deck, or should I go longer, up to like 38" with the Lush Park deck? So is it easier/better/can you do better stuff on a longer board? Or should I stick with a shorter one?

Depends on you, the biggest benefit I see on my 44" over my 38" is that I feel more comfortable at much higher speeds on my 44".
The sage, Longboard Buddha once said, "A tree spends 100% of its lifetime in a static environment and only after its reincarnation as a deck is it allowed to move at fast speeds...
when allowed, the wood will give thankless service if
    allowed to flow."

    I would go with a mid size 35"-37" x 17"-19" WB
    new school deck.

id say a board with a tail and prefferably a nose, for switch riding, the 35- 38 inch range is good and whatever width your comforatble on... remember with a larger board, you can probably manage higher speed slides easier..... its all personal preference man

i would like to add that for smaller people, like me, i prefer a smaller deck for sliding. i'm (barely!) 5'7" and ride a 33"x9" pool deck with some sick concave. it's just the right length for me. i tried sliding on my 39" arbor hybrid and it was just to big to be pushing around.

a lot of you have stated this and i agree that it all comes down to a matter of personal preference. if you have access to stores that carry a variety of decks, visit them and check 'em out. stand on the board and see how if feels under your feet.

if you are in the uk, check out some of the faltown boards (http://www.faltownskateboards.com) ... they have ones specifically built for sliding, as does lush.

I ride an old school santa cruz in pools, half pipes and on street, it is a little too short for sliding (it's about 31"). My slide deck is 36" and a double kick old school shape with deep concave and a spoon nose. This is a great length for trick sliding.

Although, when I slide my 49" deck and it feels so stylish!

I dont think you can go far wrong with the following:

    - Lush Park 38
    - Faltown Slide
    - Schmitt Stix Yard Stick
    - Pocket Pistols Hosoi

Agent WD-40 is on to something. i love my Mini Carve, that what i learned to slide on when i started.

now, i'm using a 36" Gravity Pool deck. a bit faster for spins and the nose and tail help lock you in. the 40" B40 is nice too.
