Default pool board vs. shortboard for sliding?

Hey, I've been learning to slide on my shortboard (so far i've got toeside 180's down) and have been meaning to set up a sliding deck.

I know alot of people say that for trick sliding, a double kick pool board is ideal... But whats the advantage of buying a pool board and a set of sliding wheels over just using my old shortboard?

mainly preference...i cannot stand sliding on a board shorter than 36 inches...if you feel comfortable with a smaller board, than by all means use it...the good thing about a longer board however, is that the extended wheel base makes it a little more stable at higher speeds

While to the *untrained* eye (just kidding!) that might appears to be the case. But based on where their feet compared to the deck. I'm pretty sure they are riding something around 36". Double kicked pool decks are basically oversized (longer/wider) shortboards, which normally are 30-31". I don't see any reason why he would switch to a shortboard just for this video (especially since Gravity doesn't build shortboards as far as I know, just the Pool 33, 36 and Team 36).

To further backup my rather rudimentary examination is a post from Cliff himself.

My choices for the width of the deck depend on how wide my trucks are. I like the wheels to line up with the rails of the deck.

No need to pay that much. Here's close to what I got from MileHighSkates (all the items have been recommended as "perfect" for sliding)

    Gravity 36" Team deck $58.95
    Core 6.0 trucks (pair) $26.95
    Mounting Hardware $2.50
    Soft Risers $2.00

$90.40 No Tax, Free shipping (on orders over $89 during Sept). You can use you shortboard wheels and bearings just to start off. I actually got the Brad Edwards 40" because I wanted a sliding board that was a little more all-around.

Are those not the same thing?

Pool boards are longer and wider from my understanding.

just go to your local skate shop and ask if you can look in the junk box, or whatever they call it there. snag 3 or 4 sets of some old flat-spotted wheels. Learn on those before you bust out the rainskates or noskoolz
