Default Shortboard Wheels for Learning to Slide?

Hi folks, I've decided it's time to learn to slide and from what I've been reading I'm pretty much going to destory the first set of wheels (at least).

So rather than go through some nice wheels, could I use some of my old shortboard wheels? Shortboard wheels are quite hard, there's just less surface contact.

Any serious downsides I'm missing? Thoughts? Thanks.

no way...i use my old shortboard wheels for all my slide sessions...i am too lazy to buy some bigger wheels, so i would say the only downside is how small they are and they tend to flatspot quite easily

i just started sliding .... intentionally, that is, and i like my Abec No Skoolz 65mm 94A's.
Used some 54mm park wheels at first, but they didnt produce enough speed.

After sliding awhile with my streetboard wheels, I'm definitely going to invest in some harder, bigger wheels. They work ok but I want longer slides.

    Default sliding

i wonder the same thing about my 55mm wheels

the way i stumbled upon sliding was i loosened my trucks out and started carving hard. it happened that the board lost some amount of traction. when i saw what was happening i quickly focused on doing it with more control and speed.

    good luck.

im learning to slide on my shortboard now... the wheels slide fine, you just can't go very fast because they're so tiny.

I've got hard roller skate wheels from the 70s I found at the thrift store. I think they will be perfect guinea pigs for my sliding endeavors.

I love sliding my shortboard wheels. My record is about 40-50 feet.
