Re: What's the best slide puck material???
Fig 1 & 4 mean the most to me. sorry for including the rest. i dont mean to confuse.
Fig 1 shows how different materials wear. It is a friction test. It also shows that uhmw outlasts corian at 6x the rate. and 9x polycarbonate. thus making it more "slippery" and longer lasting at the same time. If you "felt" uhmw was slower in the past perhaps you had a poor batch, or someone sold you some that wasn't pure.
Corian does come in lots of cool colors, i'll give it that.
all the info i found on oil-impregnated uhmw was mixed. yes it does slide better. but it is heavier by 20-70%. also be careful of getting uhmw that is impregenated with linseed oil as opposed to mineral oil. as it could potential become a fire hazard with leather or cloth gloves if it is stored wrong. until i try this, i will have mixed feelings, mainly in the application of fastening it gloves. i know people have used gorrilla glue, but the idea of having open celled oil, even if it is a micron level, may comprimise the bond and possibly loose a puck when i least want to.

Re: What's the best slide puck material???
This was very helpful. I jacked my shoulder up I believe because my cuttingboard gloves aren't sliding as they should. I also think they might be holding back my progression.
DT that was some serious scientific junk. I have no idea, but sounds good.

Re: What's the best slide puck material???
I have found cutting board at zellers that has lasted me over a season of sliding with no significant dent or problems to it, 20$ deck made me 2 sets of gloves, and i havent gone through even one set yet.

Re: What's the best slide puck material???
it took us YEARS to find the right polycarbonate. some polycarb out there is really rubbish for sliding - doesn't last long and sticks to the road. cliff c was telling us about polycarb that shattered when he came over a few years ago - but i've never seen or heard of it happening anywhere else. the same variation is probably true for most other materials out there - so try different stuff out and when you find something good - buy a lifetime's worth!

Re: What's the best slide puck material???
I know it definitely would not be the most cost efficient material....
but I am curious how Kevlar would hold up. Would it slide well? How does it wear? etc...
If it slid well, and lasted good then it seems a glove could have Kevlar sewn onto the entire palm side, or maybe even melted.....
Just some random crazy ideas.....

Re: What's the best slide puck material???
kevlar is a woven material, it would get annihilated very quickly

^ I think so too. I believe it's good for reinforcing fingers, but I believe if too much wieght were put on them, they would stat to fray.
Does anyone know how Lexan and Plexigalss slide?

Re: What's the best slide puck material???
lexan was my second sliding material, its great, but i couldnt find it thicker than 1/16, a little sticky too. plexi is also really good, holds up longer and slides quicker than lexan. corian holds up longer and slides faster than both of them though.

did you just use like clear or not clear plexiglass like maybe 1/4 inch thick or something the really smooth stuff?

Re: What's the best slide puck material???
Sorry to resurrect this from the dead, but I really like the delrin pucks in my gravity gloves. It slides and slides and has yet to stick or catch up on a road imperfection. The actual glove design leaves a little to be desired (ventilation! dye that doesn't make my hands black for 3 days! a decent wrist strap!), but the pucks are amazing.
I made a set of gloves with cutting board that just refused to work on east coast asphalt. I tried them out in 20 degree weather and they were melting and sticking to the ground during backside slides, so I just said screw it and ordered the gravity gloves.

Delrin is the best material for multi-rotational hands down slides, but they wear pretty quickly.
The New NBS puck is uhmwpe and will last way longer than the average puck, and not snag on cracks due to the highly beveled edge. This puck is great for everything!

When and where can i get these pucks? I hear so much about these, I eagerly await!
