No way does UHMW last three times longer than other material and some cutting boards are UHMW.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
Having gotten my slidepucks stuck in cracks before, I'm a fan of using "weaker" adhesives. I'd rather the puck get ripped off than dislocate/sprain my wrist/elbow/shoulder. I usually use hot glue, but I want to try velcro

and why are you using velcro, is it just to make the pucks replaceable?
my original plan was to buy some regular work gloves, cut up my cutting board and just glue it. and ask a clerk about which glue would work best fabric/cutting board wise.
Although corian is a little heafty it lasts way longer and has way less friction with the pavement than most other materials ive used im currently working with custom corian dealer to design some slide specific pucks instead of using tile samples. but the samples are perfect size for finger pucks if you desire finger pucks (I sure do)
Also, I have yet to notice a seriously major difference between the wear on my loaded pucks (delrin) compared to my UHMW cutting board gloves
and one advantage of cuttting boards is its usually only the palm getting replaced so the replacement board is round five bucks which with even double the wear speed it would still be cheaper to melt a new puck onto the old one and you would still get two to three more pucks from a cutting board
Cheap = UHMW Cutting Board
Slickest = Corian
Whatever = Delrin

I may not know much about sliding, but I do know that Delrin is EXTREMELY low friction compared to other plastics, so if your hills aren't as steep as others that may be what you want.

Wyoming has some awesome hills.... and I absolutely love Delrin. Fastest pucks I've used
Just wait for my DelrinAF pucks! 40% lower coefficient of friction and 500% better wear resistance than standard Delrin

Is that what's going on the mudslide gloves?

Buy a cutting board and you're just getting whatever.
I get MY commercial grade UHMW cutting boards for free from work when they 'retire' the old ones.

yes it's one of the materials I will be offering. it's a bit pricey though..... but it will be the fastest, longest lasting slide puck on the market

You do know of course that those comparative "wear resistance" numbers that the manufacturers provide are based on the performance on particular tests such as the number of rolls of a drawer wheel on a rail made of the stuff and NOT on the weight of a skater dragging a puck along rough asphalt at 30 mph don't you?
When it says it is 300% better that doesn't mean it will last 3 times as long when used as a skateboarding highway slide puck.
Delrin AF is just Delrin with teflon grease mixed in with the plastic. It is actually less dense than standard Delrin and may very well wear down more quickly when ground into the pavement. I know this by having actually used both it and regular Delrin for sliding pucks.

HALAR will outlast it 10-1.................. Period the end! The PTFE non bonded powder that is in the resin does not molecularly bond and produces a lubricant property in precision wear applications. It also makes the material softer and causes the material to shed faster in rough wear applications... have fun leaving stripes on the road... we have already tested it.

meaning that the DelrinAF is considerably worse than standard delrin?
And I'm getting a pair of the gloves also.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
check it I solved the finger problem- metal washers. 2 of them ontop of eachother, a smaller closer to the ground (farthest from your finger) which doesn't let the tip of your finger touch the ground since it makes the distance between the glove and the ground longer, and it also makes for less friction since there's less contact area. you could even try a chain mail kind of thing with the rest of the glove, I'm gonna try it when I get home.
edit: by finger problem I mean being able to have protection but freedom of fingers

Cool do you have any information to back up this claim? until then I just really don't believe you

200 / 60 *100% = 333.3% improved wear resistance over standard Delrin
Since the coefficitent of friction is reduced, so too is the abrasive force of friction. Approaching this from a mechanics standpoint, this makes sense
F_friction = (coef. friction) * F_normal

The added teflon makes the material slightly softer; however, the reduction is insignificant
Delrin: Hardness, Shore D = 86
DelrinAF: Hardness, Shore D = 83
Especially considering the fact that,
UHMW-PE: Hardness, Shore D = 60

How tough is UHMW to cut?
If i were to order a tube of it; This way I can cut it to size myself.
I am imagining i'd have to go get someone to cut it for me; As i have no power saws at this point..
Just curious..

you will need a power saw
getting someone else (as in a professional) is not worth it, they will overcharge you
your best bet is to buy your own power tools, although buying a power saw JUST for cutting UHMW is not really a worthwhile investment
this is why, you buy from someone who makes slide pucks
