Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
Halar i''d say lasts ~2x-3x longer than uhmw if you have the same amount of material. And uhmw lasts waaay longer than standard cutting board plastic polyethylene (like the white gravity old gen pucks). Delrin is around as slick as halar but it doesnt last as long.

your best bet is to buy your own power tools, although buying a power saw JUST for cutting UHMW is not really a worthwhile investment
this is why, you buy from someone who makes slide pucks
I have friends who are carpenters who have the tools.
And the uhmw is rather cheap if bought properly. Only like 20 something per foot

I must also say this is not likely to be as safe as a glove.
Probably not as safe, but a great idea to follow through with! if you just develop it a bit...maybe if you put a grip/handle in the middle so you can make sure you have a good grip on it......

May i suggest using industrial strength velcro? It sticks extremely well to the corian. Then depending on the pair of gloves just stick the otherside of the velcro to the glove. (I had one set of gloves where the velcro stuck very well and one pair where it fell off, but I simply gorilla glued the velcro onto the glove and now it's stuck on there like a hobo on a ham sandwich. Also remember to follow all directions on your adhesives [gorilla glue needs pressure, velcro needs 24 hours to set, etc.])

Also what helps alot is to sew the velcro to the glove! Its kinda hard with some gloves but its works REALLY well if you can do it!

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
Is anyone familiar about the Samsung Staron material? I was at Home Depot today to get some corian, and they had a display for Staron, and a suitcase chock full of samples. Cool thing is they have 2"x3(almost)" samples, so I grabbed a couple in the interest of experimentation. I got home and just barely got started looking in to it, I thought anyone interested might want to look into it as well, I'll post anything I find.

Staron is what Samsung calls their version of Solid Surface.
"Solid Surface is a material composed by approximately 70% of bauxite, 25% of acrylic and pigments. The main brands selling this material are HI-MACS by LG, Corian by Dupont, Staron by Samsung etc."
"Properties
Thermoformability
Translucidity
Seamless joining therefore very hygienic
Is worked like wood (CNC machins etc.)
Soft to touch
Fabrication
Solid Surface is fabricated by mixing PMMA (Acrylic) with Stone (Bauxite) and pigments. Then, a chemical cure is operated, bringing the material to 60°C. The material is then cut in sheets and sanded on one or both sides depending the brand used.
A additional step can be sometimes done: HI-MACS is also operating a thermal cure, bringing the material to 160°C and therefore improving the heat resistance.
Advantages / Drawbacks
The advantages are that this material is non porous, therefore very hygienic. The seamless property allows the machinist to create shapes, which seem to be made of only one piece. This allows for many designs consisting of compound curves and large areas.
However, this material is less resistant than granite or engineer stone and needs to be re-sanded periodically, notably if a dark colour is used in frequently used area. Solid Surface is also a high end material and quite expensive - comparable to granite and marble, depending the job done with it."
I dunno how it will slide, though. Let us know what you find out.

I'm going ahead and throwing them on the gloves I'm making. I'm sifting through brochures right now.
Jaxxstatic, where did you get all that info so quick?

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
Most of that info is Pass/Fail industry tests I'm thinking, I'm not exactly an engineer though.
I'm about to make a pair of Ninja Turtle style gloves, using a 2x3 piece of Staron as well as another 2x2 corian underneath for the main hand puck(s). I'll take some picks on the celly when they're done.

Here it is. I finished these up yesterday, haven't got a chance to test 'em proper though.
