use adhesive backed 3M velcro and you won't need anything else to stick it to the puck.

and as has been said a thousand times already GORILLA GLUE DOES NOT WORK

Will, can you post a link of the 3M velcro you used? I don't have access to hardware stores that have "everything" so I have to resort to ordering online. I only find strips, and I was thinking adhesive backed velcro in sheets.
I'm thinking of getting these gloves Hardware > Padded Palm Glove : Mechanix Wear and use velcro for my custom cut cutting board pucks. It should look pretty close to my loaded race gloves when I'm done.

Hello. I'm pretty new to the fish, and after having bought my first longboard, I've started sliding and enjoy it very much. However, I really need some decent sliding gloves before I kill myself. I've read through most of this thread so I feel like I know what I basically need.

My friend's in machine shop at school, and he's actually getting me some free delrin, which I'm pretty pumped about (was originally gonna settle for cutting board). I'm thinking of going the route of velcro instead of glue so I can eventually replace the pucks, but I'm wondering how thick the pucks should be. The sheet he has is aaround an inch thick, but I was thinking it would be good at about 3/4" thick or maybe less?

Also, I'm not really sure if I want the finger pucks, or just a palm puck. Is just a palm puck used conventually for racing/dh and palm and finger pucks for trick sliding? At this point I'm just screwing around trying to learn, so I think it would be good if I could still grip ma rails... However, I also don't wanna scrape the sh!t out of my fingers If I can help it (duck tape does work but it sure looks like crap).

Thanks everyone, this thread is really helpful!

0.5" is a good thickness for palm pucks. if you make finger pucks, you'll want them about half that since they don't take as much of the wear

i'd recommend finger/thumb pucks, but thats just me. some just like the palms, but when i'm sliding, i don't want to have to worry about keeping my fingers off the pavement

    hope that helps

p.s. black duct tape looks surprisingly less ghetto, if you take that route

    Just experiment.

To tell you the truth, make a pair with cutting board so you wont waste the good stuff. This will provide you with knowledge as to what you want/need.

Also, the black duct tape works fine for wrapping fingers. (right)

    This.

Also, if you're just learning to slide, the more friction you have going for you on your hands, the better (generally). Just don't use take your cutting board gloves to do 40 MPH shut downs. Molten Plastic on your arm is no bueno.

I like to use the adhesive back, then add a square of hot glue to make sure the edges don't start peeling.

i used some industrial velcro from lowes and it was crap. first time out it all came off. probly needed to clean the gloves with some alcohol or something to get all the dirt off but still. if gorilla glue fails then i'll sew the velcro in but seems like it would take soooo long

Are you talking about the glove itself?

For me, I try to find velcro that DOESN'T have adhesive for the glove, and hot glue it (the fabric-ish material helps retain the stick better than the slick adhesive back). Hot glue, especially on fabrics, is extremely strong. Then you can even reinforce it with some stitching if that meets your fancy

For the pucks though, 3M works just fine.

I read through heaps of the thread, and sorry for bringing this back up.

I just got my hands on some UHMW Polyethylene. Just wondering which is better though, that or Corian?

I'm in NZ, don't have Lowes here, nor do I know if any shops here have free samples.
I do have some UHMW Polyethylene, so that will be: better than corian/the same as corian/not as good as corian?

    GORILLA GLUE WORKS

for an extremely brief period of time.....

for the same price, you can get many different things that work much better for much, much longer

therefore, in practice, gorilla glue does not 'work' for slide gloves

WillJ is right, Ive read this entire thread, and MANY people have tried gorilla glue, it works at first and then a few days later they are buying shoe goo and sewing the Velcro to their new pair of gloves

in short SHOE GOO > GORILLA GLUE

    Here are my gloves.

The fingerless gloves cost 5 bucks at Wal-Mart in the isle with the Dickies work clothes. I LOVE these gloves. They are super light, breath well, and do the trick. It was a little tricky getting used to the fingers being out. These make great commuting gloves. I can grab, hippy jump, and transfer the board to my hands easier.

The bulky work gloves cost 3 bucks. They are what I wear when I do anything fast.

The Orange pair were old and heavily used work gloves from a previous job. They were my first pair. Black duct tape and epoxy hold these together.

The white pucks are corian samples found at Home Depot. The black pucks are cutting board material.

    Used velcro and hot glue.
