Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
<minirant>Just being a little over observant...It seems alot of people asked stupid questions in the first few pages of the thread. I only read like the first 10 or so then skimmed a bit. But why the hell would you ask how to make them or the best material if the guy who posted the thread explains the basic of it and like 4 different materials. Regardless the idea of making slide gloves is pretty much common since. You can pretty much make them out of anything..I made my first pair out of a air hockey puck.. get creative. And with the corian pieces if they arent free steal them bitches! </minirant>

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
im stoked: we have corian counters, and i just found a 2 1/2 by 1 1/2 foot sheet of it, hopefully my parents wont mind letting it go. they said they'd get me some slide gloves, then just backed out when they found out they are $60 bucks, so i'll give em an alternative: "spare" corian, or $60 slide gloves
EDIT: TEAM AWESOME

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
.I have been using a very cheap and effective type of glove for years. they are made of $10 welding gloves with 1 large piece of plexiglas (NOT ACRYLIC) sheet in the middle not covering the fingers at all. double sided velcro keeps it on. the fingers are covered with super diamond clear or some other wood floor sealer/hard finish. the stuff is flexible and very avrasive resistant. Overall it is a very comfortable, flexibel, light and long lasting glove.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
.dont be using uhmw and other stupid soft plastics. plexigalss or other hard plate plastics are great because they last virtualy forever and slide like ice. haha I ate it prety good the first time I trie plexigalss because my arms slid right out from under me and I hit the ground. a few times I fell of my board and jumped a sloped curb into a fence because they slide so well.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
.Anyway how on earth are you soposed to grab your board with an inch of plastic on your fingertips. the plexiglass is only 1/4 inch and superdiamond clear will give perfect flexibility when grabing.

Heck yeah. My first gloves were duct tape with a coat of wood varnish. My favorite gloves until landys with BVs.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
Of course there are harder plastics, but generally peaking with plastics, harder = shatter. Plexiglass? Shatters. Not to mention it doesn't take much heat to completely warp plexglass, have fun dealing with that when it gets warmer out and the roads become hot.
UHMW is a proven material that works just fine. WHy you would want anything else is just plain stupidity, someone trying to do something new and innovative when in reality is just being stupid and dangerous.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
SHATTER wow you would have to use a hammer to shatter 1/4 inch plexiglass. and man you would have to slide for miles on a non abrasive surface to melt plexiglass. Think about it they are used on sky lights for housed in direct sunlite. whats more comfortable a sheet of plexiglas or a hockey puck that is as heavy as a baseball glove.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
i just posted this in a "make your own" slide glove thread, but thought i should add it here as well. i own two pairs of used slide gloves i've gotten thru friends, but i just made my own pair finally. the dude at home depot was beyond nice and gave me at least 60 corian tile squares of the colors no one was in demand for. Sweet!
However here is an awesome website that is the wholesaler of corian tile samples to the major retail stores that was on the box he gave me.
http://www.coriansamples.com/prostor...let/StoreFront
all the small 2" squares are $1/ea, and the larger 4"squares are only $2 each and are great palm pucks. If ur also lookin to add some funk to ur gloves, they got some pretty interesteing colors of tile on this site. Thought this might be a good resource!

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
Isnt tile kind of heavy, hence hard to keep on the glove. I bet they make a lot of noise when sliding too. Have you ever trie that mesh tile for showers since it is flexible for the most part.
