Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
really, plexiglass is the way. its easy and you can still grab stuff with your glove. what r you gonna do with an f n 3/4 inch hunk of crp in your palm. and your glove doesnt look like a pig foot when yur done. Anyway has anyone ever use carpet (stupid idea) but it is designed for wear and tear, long lifem, and it is flixible?

lol u trying to stealth slide or somethin? sliding is friggin noisey and ya, the sound of tile on asphalt sounds like a loud scraping, but urethane wheels sliding on pavement isn't exactly a whisper. corian is just very very durable stuff.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
hey all
im making my first pair of slide gloves right now with leather work gloves and some cut to size polypropylene pucks.
the thing is, i tried the velcro method, but it wouldnt stick to the pucks very well.
so i took the square palm puck, and shredded one side quite a bit with a compass, and then spread a load of superglue onto it to stick it to the leather. right now i have the glove under my deck with a massive toolbox on top to keep the pressure on.
how long should i leave it do you think?

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
well superglue was a bad idea personaly. The stuff dosnt dry well unless it is a really thin layer exposed to the air. The stuff was actualy designed to stick to skin which it does well. I would advise the double tubed epoxy that has to be mixed. the stuff dries well in just about any thickness and is probably much cheaper for the volume than superglue.

ya epoxy is usually a better alternative, but since you've already applied the superglue, i'd give it 24hrs just to be on the safe side and u should be fine

I know it's been said, but I havn't said it yet! Your wheels contribute most of the noise of sliding. I've never approached a sesh, perked up my ears and thought 'Ah yes, I can hear their gloves, I'm in the right place'. But I've approached a sesh many a time and heard a urethane shriek that echoed across the night.

I have never experienced loud wheel chirping on 84a wheels at all slide speeds below 50mph, but I dont know mabe wide trucks make the wheels louder.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
Took a trip to Lowes after viewing this thread, at first i was gonna get some plexiglass, since it was 3 bucks, but I ended up just buying some velcro, and getting free corian samples

hah I actually, used an old biking glove i found, but unfortunately i only have the left hand.....

Considering I spent less than $40 building all these...

The small green and black gloves are my favorite. I wear those on the runs at our 'playground' on the Flemming Island. I like fingerless gloves because I can grab a board better. On a hairpin, drifting between curbs, fingers a within an inch of a cheese grater... it adds that much more to the party of taking a very tight heelside hairpin.
It doesn't matter who makes them. Gloves will get trashed, especially if your skill level is still at the "ask questions we can't answer." (no offense)
If you like them, you like them. Don't hate them because others don't like them. It shouldn't matter what gloves you are wearing. With enough experience, you will start tweaking your gloves. Puck shape, glove style/material, velcro vs glue, knuckle guards, etc.
I love Sector9. They are some good people. They make equipment just as good as anyone else.
So, the moral of the story is, experiment by making gloves. Still support the guys that are making pucks just for us. Decide for your self. Expect to spend money in longboarding if you are as passionate as myself. 50% of my little income goes toward skater-aid.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
first pair ive made, gloves from menards ($5), velcro from my girlfriends parents, corian from home depot. used some shoe goo between the velcro and the gloves to make sure it stuck. gonna let them sit for the night, maybe tomorrow too to make sure the shoe goo dries. cant wait to learn some slides!

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
i made some gloves using a $2 pair of leather work gloves and some industrial cutting board i got from my job. it seems most people use velcro for their gloves. i tried that but it didnt really work all that great for me so i took a blow torch to the back of the cutting board and melted the surface of it and i stuck the pieces on my gloves. it works great for me. i figure too.. how often are you going to be changing the pucks on the gloves? ive destroyed multiple pairs of gloves before i was even burnt through the puck

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
sorry cannon, i like my fingers unscathed.
i am trying to step away from fingerless pucks, though.
we'll see how that goes.
