Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
Some very impressive home-style gloves on here!! Mine are just simple garden gloves with Velcro and chopping board, quick to make, cheap, and i manage to more than three sets of spear pucks out of one board.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
well, i figured i needed a new pair o gloves, as i lost one of my old ones, and they weren't in the best shape. They looked like this:

so, i went to home depot (hate the store, only for the corian) and picked up a pair of $9.99 heavy duty work gloves and some industrial strength velcro, the total was 19.50, not too shabby. I asked the clerk for some corian samples, and i guess there aren't any sliders in my town, as he just turned me loose in the corian drawer, with my gloves and velcro in my hands. After a short assembly, my new gloves are really nice, totally worth the 20 bucks.

I have an old pair of bmx gloves and i work for a cutlery company so i can get tons of little cutting boards, just cut a square for the palm and a rectangle for the fingers and angle the fingers one up at the pointer finger a bit so you can still grab your board and move your hand. i used threel ittle bottles of Krazy glue and never looked back. my skating buddy and roommate just bought the new loaded gloves ffor 50 bucks but the about 6 bucks plus maybe a few for the cutting board your set for months. i hardly notice a bit of wear but the loaded gloves at getting worn down super fast.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
If you decide to go the cheap route and use good ol' poly cutting board, it melts at a fairly low temp. I use a small butane torch and stick it to the gloves after melting my puck on one side and it works fine. You may even be able to do it with a cigarette lighter...

Bah!
Us Canadians have the worst luck.
Kent (A store like home depot) only gives out their equivelent to corian brochures. I got my dad to go into Home Depot for me, and they said they only have brochures, too!
Damn.

I was JUST at home depot and I think I picked up the exact same gloves and industrial velcro. How did you stick the velcro to the glove? Did it just stay with the adhesive that was on the backing? Now that you've had them for a bit are they working out?
Also I was only able to get 7 samples (2x2) from the lady working there before she started to look annoyed. Any one have tips on "corian puck" configurations?
I may go out to lowes on the opposite side of town and try and grab more.

At first, I used the adhesive on the velcro, and it works fine to stick to the corian, but it'll come off if you sweat when it is adhered to the glove. I just popped some gorilla glue on there, and it works perfect.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
I've been in no hurry to make my gloves because I my pads still aren't here, but today I decided to go for it and make the right glove (the one a goofy footer needs for Colemans right?).
I used Industrial velcro from the 4ftx2in box that is sold at home depot. Some FG gloves (also from home depot) + shoe goo which I had around my flat. For 20$ total I'd say they are on the expensive side of home made gloves but I think they'll work out well.
I also decided to cover the entire palm because the loop side of the velcro is rather flexable and I want freedom to choose my puck placement/type.
What do you guys think? I think it turned out quite well. Of course the TRUE test will be when I try to use them. They need ~24hours for the shoe goo to dry, but now I'm tempted to try them out tomorrow instead of waiting for my pads to come in.
(sorry for the web-cam quality pic, but thats all I got)

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
Polycarbonate, yeah its a little expensive, but I made a pair of slide gloves and used polycarb as the pucks and they are lasting longer than other materials that I have used(Derlin, and UHMW). Plus its clear and looks awesome.

Re: The Definitive Slide Gloves Thread
My friend and I seem to be having the same problem as a lot of other Velcro users... We got some comfy/strong CAT (Caterpillar brand, like the construction equipment) gloves from Harbor Freight and ind. strength Velcro with adhesive backing today. The adhesive works fine on the grippy palm material stuff but just sorta falls off of the normal fabric/leathery stuff.
Question: The main point is, what kind of super glue is best in addition to Velcro adhesive? Does it really even matter as long as it's some product of decent quality?
... :D ... :D ... :D ... :D ...

stitch the velcro to your gloves.
