Haha.. Been to Fargo Street when I lived near there. I seriously would not wanna watch someone attempt to skate it.
I didn't even want to walk it.

Re: Steepest stree tin the world
When I read about a steep street in LA, I was thinking of the hills around silver lake. Sure enough Fargo St is there. Those hills around the resevoir are insane.

Re: Steepest stree tin the world
Yea, I really think there needs to be a HUGE slidecomp held in the middle of San Fransisco, 33% grade hill, tons of specators, great weather, what else could you ask for?

Re: Steepest stree tin the world
I don't got a pic, but the steepest hill ever is definitely in my hometown. It's easily in the 60s, but it's not paved and I doubt anyone will ever pave it. It's mainly just used for hill training for cross country, it's the most painful run ever.

Looks to be just about as steep as Baldwin St.
Fargo St also has the ridges for traction. I've heard stories that the USPS vehicles can't make it up the street...
I can see that street from my apt. as I write this.

Its also the least straight road in the world. I guess you could drift the whole thing.

Re: Steepest stree tin the world
In 2001 a 19-year-old University of Otago student was killed when she and another student attempted to travel down the street inside a wheeled rubbish bin. The bin collided with a parked trailer, killing one of the occupants instantly, and causing serious head injuries for the second.
Who in their right mind would do that?

Not many people would, but they were drunk, so they weren't in their right mind.

According to SF's Bureau of Engineering, nothing there would qualify as "2nd steepest hill in world":
Here, according to the city Bureau of Engineering, are the steepest of the steep in descending order:
1. & 2. Filbert between Leavenworth and Hyde; 22nd Street between Church and Vicksburg, both 31.5 percent gradient.
3. Jones between Union and Filbert, 29 percent.
4. Duboce between Buena Vista and Alpine, 27.9 percent.
5. & 6. Jones between Green and Union; Webster between Vallejo and Broadway, both 26 percent.
7. & 8. Duboce between Divisadero and Alpine; Duboce between Castro and Divisadero, both 25 percent.
9. Jones between Pine and California, 24.8 percent.
10. Fillmore between Vallejo and Broadway, 24 percent.
There are 3 streets in Los Angeles area that are steeper (33%), and I believe there's one in San Pedro that's even steeper than that...
