Earthwing Drifter Questions
Im planning on getting me an Earthwing Drifter from TLS but have a few questions that need answers
-im about 5'11 145lbs and am not sure whether the 38 or 35 drifter is bbetter for my size
-5plys seems pretty thin and i need to know how durable it is
-can anyone compare it with a sergio?
-are EW slide wheels long lasting? how are they compred to the sergys?
thanks

Get the new 35.5.
With Slide A's. (As they are made for each other)
It's 5 Ply with thermoplastic and S glass. (or something like that correct me if im wrong someone.)
Plenty strong, i weight 180 and it great for me.
The Sergio is a 33. Too small unless your under 5'7 IMO.

Re: Earthwing Drifter Questions
169s match up with both the 35.5 and the 38.
I vote for the new 35.5 with Slide A's as well.

that's exactly what I use on my 38, I also have tried tracker 161s which work fine as well. i've already beat it up significantly sliding, park, and street skating and it's holding up just fine. haven't used the sergio, I have the be40 and a ps36, concave similar to the ps36, bit wider and deeper, definitely better for sliding than the be40. a bit flexy but I'm learning to like a bit of flex in a slide board as long as it has a great concave.
you shouldn't really be concerned how long the wheels are going to last, be concerned how they slide . it all depends on what kind of slides your doing, how much you're out sliding, you're weight, and what kind of pavement your on even more so than the urethane. slide As are super slidey. IMO even more than sergios.

Re: Earthwing Drifter Questions
dude, 35.5 and slide as will last you forever no matter what kind of slide your doin, i bet you cant flatspot them if you tried, (unless your sergio or something) and i got indy 150 trucks on them and they work fine. dope ass ####, really strong, i think its got like carbon fiber in it so its madd strong and light.

Re: Earthwing Drifter Questions
unquestionable if you cant flatspot slide A wheels then you obviously are doing "flatspot safe" slides.
try holding a sergio straight and pulling a long speedcheck with the board fully perpendicular to the road. it is VERY possible to flatspot, if you know how flatsspots happens it is easy to avoid them but you will find that all slides are faster when the board is completely perpendicular to the road, especialy when doing standup. rightnow if i fell my slide As the dont have any big spots but there are small little ones and the wheel isint round.
randal 150 and indy 169s are good choices for trucks.
sofa what is this new 35.5 you speak of? does it now have the same concave as the 38?

Board length doesn't have anything to do with height. Weight isn't particularly important either. What do you want to do with the board? What do you like to ride?
The boards are totally durable; but the 38 flexes a bit much if you're heavy. The sergio is the same eco-tech/fiberlam/thermoplastic weave/watson laminates construction; different concave and shape.
Any wheel will flat spot, Slide As included. You can slide 'em down to the core or ruin them on the first run. I had my first set for 6 months, then sold 'em for $5 because they were about 55mm.

Re: Earthwing Drifter Questions
the drifter is pressed between thermoplastic. super durable and can handle a beating. if your used to longer boards, get the 38... but 35 is awesome all around you'll be happy either way. i never flat spotted a wheel yet but some people do. have fun.

evreyone supports Earth Wing when they see something gross!
I need new slide wheels that don't cost alot. Or should I just spring for the A's and get it over with?

Re: Earthwing Drifter Questions
I have a few EW drifter questions as well. I am about 6 foot, and about 190 ish and my shoe size is 14. Which would you say is a better combo? 38 or 35? I am a bit used to longer boards (40+), but I also am used to my fish. (33.5) And Is EW coming out with a 08 Drifter, or is the one that is out the 08 version?
Thanks, greatly appreciated.

Just keep riding them, if you do a lot of slides that aren't prone to flatspotting, you'll wear them down till the flatspot is gone.

Re: Earthwing Drifter Questions
I've seen so many threads about flatspots and wheels and it pisses me off every time when people say that certain slide wheels (meaning wider wheels with rounded edges, the standard stuff) won't flatspot.
ANY WHEEL WILL FLATSPOT!!!!!!

once you start doing sergios and slides which involve the board more perpendicular to the road and held out at high speed flatspots can happen very easily (not unweighting right, not sliding in a direction not direct to your lane of travel). I've destroyed superballs, sergios, super sliders, bombers, gbones, and various park/pool wheels doing this.
if anyone ever has a wheel they think won't flatspot ever than just lend it to sergio yuppie for a day and I guarantee you he will flatspot it
but seriously the drifter rules, I love that board soo much
I find doing standups in different directions and flatspins really help to get rid of flatspots unless they're so bad you have the motor scooter thing going on.

Re: Earthwing Drifter Questions
What's up bro, I am 6' 3' and about 190 lbs. I ride my 38" Drifter's for cruising and for sliding. I slide with indy 169's and superballs and cruise with gullwing mission1's and 60 mm kryptonics hawaii's.It is a very versitile board with two hole patterns in the front of the board to set up for cruise or optimum stability for slide and trick skating.
