Default how long do most pucks last?

im getting green loaded sliding gloves for christmas but for now i made my own out of paintball fingerless gloves and for the puck i use those things you put under like a couch or table when you're moving so they slide around easier, especially on carpet. well ever since i made them 2 days ago i have been sliding non stop, i cant even think of another way to longboard without sliding, it's just waay too much fun. but my pucks already have cracks in them and are getting grinded down.

Im going to get some cutting board today but am still looking forward to my actual slide gloves. How long does one set of pucks go before they start getting grinded down or cracked? also, how long does cutting board go before getting scratched?

i'd say if your using them for strictly sliding, you should go with the gravity full fingers.... they've lasted me months. but since ive gotten into DH im gettin the loadeds just because they will allow me to grab the rail easier

Once you get your gloves, I recommend replacing all puckage. Take those finger pucks and stick 'em to the outer sides of your shoes (by your pinky toe knuckle) a la velcro or epoxy and do the same with those palm pucks, but adhere them to the tiptoes of your shoes.

$3 cutting board from Target seems to work best for me.

Cuts real easily with a hacksaw, but wears clean and fast on the asphalt/concrete. I've never had it crack on me, either.

Use that for your fingers and thumb and palm puck if you want, but I would highly recommend you invest $15 in some Darkspeedhttp://www.darkspeedslidepucks.com slide pucks.

They're real slick and will last you forever.

    Happy sliding!

    Edit:

Just realized you haven't gotten them yet.

In the meanwhile you can buy some pretty decent leather work gloves for cheap ($15 or less), some epoxy ($5), and some industrial strength velcro ($9 for lots) to make your own set.

These are usually better for when you first start sliding as you may tear the siht out of them as you're learning in a way that you'll never tear them again.

I tore the hel outta my first set of Loaded gloves when I first started sliding and it's annoying as they were $40 and reduced to tatters after a year. They're not as durable as entirely leather gloves (like the Landyachtz) because of the difference in how they respond to abrasion. Leather, especially treated leather, will slide across the asphalt while kevlar kinda sticks and you wind up with tears that aren't in the material itself, but along the stitching lines where it's joined.

That's my biggest problem with the Loaded gloves currently, but I do love that impact pad they stitch in under the heel of the palm. It's perfect and has saved my scaphoid many a time. It also seems to push out the puck a little, which seems to help.

Well, Christmas is still over a month away, and who knows how much awesome sliding you could do between now and then...

So, forget about the cutting board, it wears super fast. Go to the nearest Home Depot or someplace similar and get some free Corian samples, you probably want a 3" by 3" piece for each palm and some other smaller ones for fingers and thumbs. You can cut it with a bandsaw or jig saw, then bevel the edges and attach it however you want.

Mine have been through some really rough sessions, and are still going strong.

Just the simple truth my man... Halar is tougher and lasts longer... A 1/4" puck lasts longer than a 1/2" Poly puck PERIOD8) I thought you were asking for the toughest puck and how long they last? It would be shameless If I didn't support and advertise on the fish... Just because I design and build decks and equipment shouldn't meen I can't participate in the fun...

Halar does last better than all the other stuff, thats simply due to its molecular properties and abrasion characteristics. Thats also what makes it $

For starters, I would suggest going to home depot and getting some corian from the kitchen section. If you want the longest lasting get halar.

For serious, if you hadn't posted I might not have heard of HALAR. Diggin' on the palm shape option, though. What does the material slide like? And how does it wear away? The reason I avoid Corian is because it dusts.

I want to go through all the commercial pucks currently. Thus far I've burned through the Loadeds pucks (grey & green), some 'o Gravity's Delrin pucks, and now I'm on the Darkspeeds and haven't put too much wear on them at all despite some heavy sliding. Favorites thus far. I was gonna give the Black Velvets a go next, but I'm feelin' that palm shape and I wanna know what a partially fluorinated semi-crystalline polymer slides like, heh. The thinner profile of the puck also intrigues me.

If the Darkspeeds ever die, you'll definitely see an order from Chicago.

what kind of question is that

ive never ridden halar pucks, but to me, a 1/4 in puck is just too thin... youre more likely to mess up your gloves with such a small puck. how does it slide though? is it smooth? quiet?
