Re: Technical sliding thread
anyone got some tips for stand up noseblunts, i am down to try them either way but right now have no idea how to get myself into them, i have them down switch toeside but cant get them in reg, just on a personal thing from the experienced guys which way to you find it easier to do them and can you give me a rough idea of how to get into one, they have been pissing me off for ages so any advise appreciated, right now when i try them its either throwing all my weight over my right shoulder into getting the board to break out and then trying to slide on my front foot with out taking the slide to 90degrees (this ends badly) or me doing a toeside check and trying to get my back wheels off like i would do when throwing one late in a checkslide/stand up 180 and its just not working for me to be able to get my weight there

Re: Technical sliding thread
Hard wheels needing for tech sliding.... 78 and 80a's have worked for me in the past just takes practice and knowing your board, so how about we give the people learning some encouragement and inform him that in order to do all slides you'll need some harder wheels plus it will make it easier to learn.

with you there on half of it, yes give the kid incouragement, he rides a skateboard so therefore is atleast 50% more awesome then anyone who dont skate. You can do all slides on soft wheels on a board with a long wheel base, and some slides are easier on bigger boards with softer wheels for some people, (this is coming from a techslider) and some people can ride DH faster on a 40' double kick with big 90a wheels as opposed to being on a 'DH Board' everyone is different, gear these days limits nothing, its your willingness to learn how to ride said gear that limits what you can do on a skateboard.
End Rant

Yea but techsliding is technical sliding, and I don't consider coleman pendy's or any of the simplier slides to be technical. I'm not trying to sound like a dick, but this is a thread dedicated to tech sliding, not sliding. If you can pop 360's on soft wheels, then i'll gladly call it techsliding, but there is a very small group that does that.
I'm happy to see people ride, it's awesome, and coleman pendy's on soft wheels is really fun, but it doesn't belong in this thread.

Re: Technical sliding thread
any advice on 180 speed check slides? i can break into the slide, spin the board and bring it back but it always grabs traction once i get it back perpendicular with the road
Skater: "Wow, thats a big hill... i dont think i can do it."
Me: "Its ok, I'll go first."

I think I understand what you're trying to do, but the way you're describing it makes me think not.....if you explain more then I can probably help you out. I know what the speed check is, but a 180 speed check.....that's just a 180.......unless you mean to bring the slide 180 and then bring it back 180 all in one fluid motion.

i agree, it sounds like he's doing a 180 then when trying to do another 180 to get back to regular, getting stuck half way.
If that is the case, just try to mimic the motions your doing in the first 180 like unweighting and rotating the board. also when doing 180s it makes them easier to bring the back around if you put more weight on your front foot.
if your just trying to do speed checks (turning the board 90 degrees then bringing it back), and your getting stuck at 90 and not able to bring it back, then if your not already doing so you need to counter rotate your upper body (turning your upper body in the opposite direction of the slide) so that when you want to bring the board back, you just unwind your body. also make sure to unweight the board properly
this video explains it better, then i can with words

Re: Technical sliding thread
Another thing you can do is hyperextend your speedcheck, so instead of going a full 180 or just 90 in the speedcheck, you can tweak it out past 90, something like a 140. Once you get past a certain degree in a speedcheck, it's much harder if not impossible to bring it back in one fluid looking motion.

Re: Technical sliding thread
how do slide a's compare to typical skateboard wheels?
on the street i slide, the road surface looks like rough griptape and basically shreds my skatewheels. when i slide on semi-rough concrete the slides are nice and predictable.
i was also wondering if these wheels work good in a skatepark.

Re: Technical sliding thread
I'm wondering this, and feel free to ignore it if it doesnt belong here (though i think it should), what do all you guys look for in boards and wheels. What are the basic or typical sizes of board, wheels, etc.
More specifically what companies make "the best" boards.
I'm just curious because, although im fairly new to skating, i havent seen much in the way of this and its damn cool.
