True Vintage Board Check It

Remember all those threads about "Oh, I found an old school board from the 70's at a garage sale, check it out?"

Check this OG board out, from the 50's. My grandpa made it for my mom in the late 50's. It used to be fun to ride around untill a bearing came apart, and some rusted. Should I fix it up with new bushings and bearings, or just leave it, and keep it around?

Check out where the rollerskate trucks were cut apart.

My only concern is that the "clay" wheels have become brittle

So many better decks out there to be riding, keep that bad boy for the wall.

i might even just clean it up a bit and leave all the same parts.

Yeah.... that's what I really meant.

Lead is right, while it has some rust, it's still intact and think if the wheels chipped badly.
You would lose a keepsake.. hang it up and admire it.. Pass it down to your grand kid

To do the same... that's not merely vintage, it's history and an heirloom.

Homemades that had a long life on the rode and seen some age should stay the way they are. The only thing you can do is clean it a little and hang it on the wall. If you think that it should be ridden it will eventually fall apart and that will be the end of the original look of the board. Tattered for a wall hanger is fine. It is a piece of history for your family now. I have a few Homemades and the steel wheels are falling off and there's nothing I can do. Just leave it OG!!

Thats a collector's item. Clean it up a bit, leave it all original and put it on the wall or in the corner. Don't be riding that....technology rocks! Nice find though.

I would not touch it, leave it all original and hang it on your wall.
You will have a hard time trying to replace those loose balls bearing easily anyway and the wheels are probably really fragile now. Awesome find!

So, now I'm thinking polish it up, other than that, leave it how it is, keep it around just 'cause it's awesome.

Normally I would say it's a skateboard, so I'ma ride it, but I think it's earned not being trashed by lasting so long.

How's that sound?

Get a mini or a slalom board, they will be similar, but far superior.
