Will vintage leathers save me?
Hey everyone.... I am looking about for leathers and I see some really old but cheap vintage ones for sale...
They are basically just the pure leather it seems like w/o any padding no sliders no extra thick leather anywhere (at lest from my understanding).... I was planning to wear one of those spinal protector thingies probably some more padding under any set of leathers nonetheless.....
So are they worthy? Thanks.

Heres a link to some..... They are not mine nor do they have anything to do with me.

Re: Will vintage leathers save me?
As long as the leather appears to be in good condition, they should work fine.

DON"T DO IT. The instant you put them on, you will implode. But no, they should be fine.

Re: Will vintage leathers save me?
mine are 20yrs old, they have reinforced spots but no pucks or polymer reinforcement
and yes they have saved me many times, getting a spine protector is also a supreme choice

Re: Will vintage leathers save me?
i have been loving my $60 ebay vintage leathers from the 70s made by a company called Lewis. they fit me like a glove now that they're broken in and everybody always thinks i dropped a grand on a set of NJKs. i've fallen in them going fast on nasty pavement, they held up fine. mine were the same as the ones you posted, no body armour at all. i spent 150 bucks to take them to a leather place to have a new lining put in(the one of the 70s was shot) and put body armour(knees, elbows, hips) pockets in the lining. might be a little more to buy some armour, but i think the fit of old leathers is much better for people like me that don't have huge arm muscles and a massive chest.
also, vintage leathers are usually made from one or 2 pieces of leather where as most new suits(at least the cheaper ones) are made with 100s of different pieces of leather sewn together. quite easy to bust a seam.
oh yea, might also be a good idea to go to timeshipracing.com and buy some of their scabs recaps so you can have some hard plastic on the knees...exstends the life of the leathers and your knees will like you for it.

Re: Will vintage leathers save me?
David P, and Dennis M, both have Luis (sp?) leathers. theyre not made anymore and are vintage but i know for a fact they have saved their assess more than once. its not really the age that counts its the condition. i have newer leathers, and they tore to shreads after a couple real good crashes.

So now all you have to do is find some hills.

Re: Will vintage leathers save me?
newenough.com & brocktoncycles.com often have some closeout deals on leathers. If you have a racetrack near you there is most likely a track school there that sells off their rentals suits every year.

Re: Will vintage leathers save me?
dude nice find. 61 bucks for some vintage leathers...now we'll both have matching bright blue leathers....i've found that bright blue is quite photogentic, easy to spot the guy in blue. mayble we should form "team blue" racing?
