    Default Found a Vintage Board!

So yesterday I was out cruisin around campus and I found a vintage malibu bananna board near a dumpster. Its set up with RACO Trucks, wide vented super hard wheels about 58mm i imagine. The deck is about 25 inches by about 5.5 at its widest point and made of molded orange plastic. Its crazy, the axels goes straight through the trucks. Also when taking it all apart, i learned the hard way that these boards use old school bearings.... needless to say I chased them around the kitchen for a while after removing the shield.

So, Does anyone know anything about this board? I dont have any pics right now cause Im out of batteries. Soon to come though.

    Thanks

    lol...

I dont think i can put different trucks on. The pattern is three holes (though there are others) but the trucks screw into the board rather than bolt through. I dont know if i should mess with it. Any opinions?

There were some REALLY JUNKY boards in the 70's. I used to skate with a guy whose Nash self-desructed while he was going down a hill. Kinda messed him up road-rashy.

I just wonder how excited any of us would be if 30 years from now we find one of those $10 Wal-Mart boards in the dumpster. Being old is not the same thing as being vintage. To me calling something "vintage" is to honor it like a fine wine. [Come to think of it, isn't that where the word comes from?] It just seems wrong to dignify a POS like that by calling it "vintage". The old SIMS boards, or Logan EarthSkis, or G&S boards etc - those are vintage.

    Just my opinion.

mengels is right... there was a reason it was by the dumpster. junk is still junk twenty years later only in wine terms it would be vinegar.

there are lots of replacement to do, and its not that hard to find it either, well... being honest, its not easy, but its not impossible, but mangels said the truth, and i second that, it doesn't mean that it is old that it is vintage, yes it is vintage, it was sold like a pest in the 70's but they were not very good even in the 70's...have a think about it.

There is a seller here in uk in ebay.co.uk, that sell sh!!t loads of them still, wel...being honest again, a better version then that, but it doesn't look that better either...if you are really up to remake it, contact him, his a superb guy, i am sure here is going to help, he has lots of 70's stuff online.

If it was mine i woould just lean it against the wall, high on a shelve or something....better keep history in a safe place then bringing the past to the present, and guess what is going to happen....well...its going to bring the sh!!!ts from the past too. LOL

Though i liked it. Nice one!

Heh, that was the first skateboard I ever rode, and a lot of the reason why I didn't skate for another 10 years or so... My brother had one, and even on whisper-smooth fresh cement it was scary. The wheel are what, like 2" apart?

Great find, I'd love to have one for sitting on a shelf and looking cool, old-school orange 70s style ftw. Congrats.
