    Default Vintage Logan Help

So I picked up a NOS, Logan earthski. Being NOS it has not been gripped before, could someone help me with a picture of how they were originally gripped? I searched but found no pics, maybe i suck at searching who knows.

    Thank You in advance.

I'm pretty sure they were completely gripped except where the logo is. Does yours have the logo on top? That part wasn't gripped and it was just a rectangle cut to show the logo.

I know that's how the laminates were when they came out. Not so sure on the solid wood LES's. But most didn't come gripped like yours and people did whatever they wanted on top.

It might be better to just leave it NOS and not gripped.
I remember grip tape being different back in
the 70s, 1-2" wide and more like rubber.

Well, I bought it to ride, at the Farm. I have decided function over form. And I gripped and mounted trucks already. Looking back I probably should have found a used board, but what the hell, we only go around once right?

I don't know how anyone else remembers it, but this is the way all the Bruce Logan solid oak Earth Skis looked like on the East Coast that we saw:

Also, I don't know if Makaha, Val Surf or maybe Sunset who did it, but they used all these small die-cut pieces of sandpaper grip tape to make designs on the top of the boards.

The only ones I know who used the rubber deck tape was Fibreflex. Again, though, all I know is what we saw over here. No telling what was going on in California we never heard about.

P.S. And please, no jokes about my drawing. It's just something I roughed out real quick to illustrate the concept.

Yeah I had some of that. It was 3M if I'm not mistaken. Mine was red (sort of brick colored) and they had it in all kinds of squares and strips.

Here's a couple of pics on Bulldogs site (scroll down to Rhino's post).

Oh, now I remember why. Whoever did these grip tape designs didn't have the wherewithall to tape the board and DIE CUT a square hole so the logo wasn't covered up. so they piece mealed grip tape all over the board so it went around the image.

Only FibreFlex had those neat dies available to cut a window the same shape as their logo.

I remember a kid was asking one time, "how hard is it to make sure the tape goes down and doesn't cover up some of the logo?"

Me at my most brilliant said in a confident 14-year old voice, "they put the sticker on AFTER putting on the grip tape."

I was such a clever child.

    hey wes
your inital drawing of the griptape job very much reflects the way boards had been gripped back in the day,i've seen quite a few of those looking very similar to what you did as a graphic.
the rubber gripatpe was a g&s exclusive to say so at that time.

logan came with cut out griptape when they introduced the duralite series.
before that they has a ll boards blank and ungripped.
coutout tape was also done by howell,z-flex and a few others back then.

I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world.. without you. A world without rules or controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible.

I gotta tell ya', I'm IMPRESSED with myself. Working on a 30-year old memory, I scribble something out and it's THIS CLOSE:

I missed a little bit in the tail (didn't make it sharp enough) and I got the logo upside down. Still, that's pretty freakin' good!
