    Default Vintage Skateboard

Well, I received this as a somewhat Christmas present from my grandparents. It has probably been sitting on their garage shelf for the past 40 years. I guess it used to be my father's in the early 60's.

Measures 14" long by 4" wide. It might be my new DH setup

Comments/real info on this board would be great if anyone can share any. Anyone else own one?

Yeah, it looks like it. I looked on Ebay and it doesn't seem to be pulling too much money. Figured it would.

I didn't think it was one of the first though!

That's way cool, man. I'd put that thing on display wherever you keep your boards. It's cool that you've come across a piece of boarding history.

Looks like the kind of thing that has more "cool" factor than monitary value.

Yep. Those were pretty common back in the 60s. My first board had nearly identical trucks (stamped steel, non-adjustable) and wheels:

...wow. the first model of skateboard ever made... that's sick dude, put that thing on display. Have you tried riding it? not that I would, I'd be too afraid to break it, but I'd be curious to see how it rides

Hey look what I got for Christmas!

Looks like it's from the same era as your board. This was my mom's "skateboard" when she was about 10. She guessed it's from the early '60s

    23.5" x 5.5"

The bearings are built into the metal wheels. The trucks are extremely narrow and seem to have some sort of rock-hard bushings:

P.S. This board is so hard to ride! So tippy! My mom said they rode it more like a scooter: front foot on board, facing forward.... back foot just pushes

the trucks look almost identical! thats awesome!! I tried to ride it a little bit but a piece of wood that is 50 years old just can't be trusted. I'll clean it off and put it on a shelf

That board is cool, but I did a little research - sorry to break this to ya, but "Roller Derby" was the poser "Loaded" brand back in the day - they did not have the internet back in the 60's, but they did have an underground skater newsletter that showed clearly how some of the rich kids got "Roller Derby" brand just to look cool, but they had no skating skills whatsoever. Also, "Sidewalk Surfboard" was the Sector 9 of its day - the board for noobs without a clue. All the real skaters rode on "Nash" brand of skateboards, now if you could find an old "Nash" board, that would be somethin.....

i'm fine with whatever it used to be. My dad probably road it one day and then set on the very shelf that I found it on. Either way, it was apart of skateboarding and its roots.
