anybody from fairbanks
well its that time of year again in Alaska the days are getting shorter, colder, and darker. Long gone are the 23 hours of day lite and all night skate sessions, soon it will rain and snow and we will be out of skateing for a good 6 months maby more.
now is the time to get together and go skate what we can while we can let me know if you live in Fairbanks or around there so we can go skate

Re: anybody from fairbanks
I do a lot of cruising downtown, around the park, and through 1-5th ave. Sometimes I will hit farmers loop, but I hate going out there alone. I like having someone around "in case" something happens. Other than that I haven't really been any where else in the area... you guys wanna meet up and skate sometime? I have been looking for people to skate with.

where were you looking? the runs would be nice, if we had decent asphalt on the roads, but a lot of them are gravel, or just rough asphalt with lots of pot holes.lol it's not light anymore. The sun goes down around 730 or so now,

Chena Ridge Road looks definately bombable, on both sides of the ridge.

I haven't bombed many hills, but those do look pretty nice. I have been on chena ridge before, and later in the evening is best because you have less traffic.

Im in the same boat you are, I can hit UAF ok, but since I still don't know how to slide, I don't like going to fast, because stopping gets pretty sketchy. I saved your number in my phone, by the way, hopefully if it's still nice this eek, we can find somewhere to hit up. where do you usually go?

Quick word on the U. If you start at the museum, and work your way down toward the art center but take a turn off at Hess village, then go back toward the art center, then around the front toward the patty center. you can get a sweet half hour ride, then simply walk up the sledding hill to the museum. Too bad our season is over. Maybe global warming will kick in and make things nice up here. Also, a good road is Summit off of Farmers Loop. I'm looking forward to learning to slide on that hill next summer.

Re: anybody from fairbanks
Has anybody done blaine rd from the top all the way to the bottom by blaine lake (on farmers loop)? It seems like it would be a nice steady downhill and the road isn't quite as bumpy as the rest of what we are dealing with.

I haven't really grown the balls to start learning to slide, yet, lol... I want to hit that road though. I have taken summit, but it was a lot of deep carving. not too bad, definitely a rush!

Haha, I bombed summit this spring, I thought it would go flat at the end, I couldn't tell it was actually a decent grade. I almost went into farmers loop but I bailed. (All this before I discovered silverfish, other people who longboard, breaking and sliding) Good times, I still have scars from the road rash, not a good idea to take a fall in shorts and t-shirt. What do you ride? and where is your favorite place?

Freekin Springtime!
Hey everyone from Fairbanks! Season is open thanks to all the warm weather we have been getting. I know everything is a little gravely, but the museum parking lot up at UAF is fairly clear, great place to get down your dancing. Anyone wanting to come ride?
Ride to Enjoy!

Re: anybody from fairbanks
I'm in Fairbanks, Been skateboarding since i moved to Alaska in 1980. I've been all around the area and as you know, different areas get new asphalt at times and new places become skateable for downhill runs and sliding. The best one right now for a long ride is at the top of Chena Ridge, it's called "Roden". It drops off the top of the ridge toward Ester. Gotta go when there isn't a lot of traffic but it's a great ride. University has always been good for cruising. I used to live on campus, now I just work there.
I used to have a half pipe skateboard ramp at 5.5 mile Old Steese, that was a nice road too at times when it was newly paved. I sold my ramp in the late 80's to some kids from North Pole. I will have to post some photos here of my old ramp. I'm probably the oldest skateboarder in Fairbanks. I'm 53 years old now and still skating. I went to North Pole skatepark last weekend and had a blast. Most of the kids think I'm a narc or something when they see me show up at a skateboard area. Until they see me skate a bit. Then they just accept me and relax. My favorite skating is vertical riding but there isn't much here anymore. So... I just cruise around, hit the parks once in a while and downhill when I get a chance. Mostly alone although i was told by Glenner the D. J. that they have a longboard group that rides together in Summer. Call Glenner at the radio station for more info. He's getting old, almost as old as me so he is not skating now due to knee injury.
SKATEBOARDING IS NOT A CRIME! so go out there and just DO IT!
You won't be young forever.... believe me... I know! except in your mind and heart like me.
