I'm going. If that means anything to you. Check the Contest Calendar on ncdsa to see who else isogoing. This will be my first year, but I hear Mischo puts on a great race! Click the link to Mischo's site and you can get a car's eye view of the course. Also, when planning your trip, keep in mind that Vernon is a good 6 hrs from Vancouver.
Is it worth going to? Is anyone else going? I wanna plan a trip of 1-2 weeks around it and skate up Seattle and Vancouver.
So yeah who's got the word on Vernon?
Thanks
hi jam
the vernon race hill is the fastest of the 3 major b.c. races. the steepness and the big wide sweeping turns made me feel like i was in a giant pinball machine. the road surface was excellent and the sensation of my flywheels on the buttery smooth pavement felt nothing short of sensual.
vernon is located in the okanagan region which is b.c.'s version of the french riviera--same mediterranean summertime climate except that the beaches have CLEAN fresh water instead of salt water. all the okanagan resort cities are only a few hours apart and you can hit vernon, penticton and kelowna all in the same day if you want. the cities are all connected by a scenic lakeshore highway that makes travelling to each resort city almost as enjoyable as the destination itself. just be forewarned that you might end up staying in the okanagan the entire time and forgetting about vancouver and seattle.
hope to see you at the race. don't forget your sunscreen.
Thanks everyone. I would really like to go, especially since I am planning a trip out there and I might as well plan around a race.
My only problem is like distance and shtuff. I think I will be "living" in Seattle for the week or two that I am there. I want to hit up Washington and Vancouver while I am there and I wanna go to Vernon, but how far is it exactly? 6 hours seems very long lol.
Vancouver to Vernon: About 275 miles. Keep in mind BC is 90% mountains, so you have to drive 50 miles north to get 10 miles east, etc., with sections of windy 2-lane mountain roads. I've done the drive in less than 5 hrs though. Seattle is still 1.5 hrs from Van. But come! It'll be a rad race!!! Don't let the distance scare you...I'm coming from Calgary, which is 7.5 hrs and 375 miles.

I REALLY wanna go there... I guess that 3 weeks of pasta will help me do that.
