Khiro Equipment Overview

As any Silverfish Longboarding reader knows, sometimes the “little things” matter a lot when setting up your longboard for the perfect ride. At the Longboard Consortium, both the completes and the “build-ups” we review are ridden by a wide variety of riders, and we occasionally need to alter things, or even to change setups to improve or address ride characteristics of the longboard. A quick call to “Khiro Bob” resulted in a box of stuff just perfect for our needs: a broad selection of Khiro’s excellent bushings, shock pad risers, hard risers, wedge risers, the new “wedge rail” riser kit and the Max-7 hardware pack. If you don’t know about Khiro’s urethane bushings, then you should. Produced in five durometers, ranging from 73a to 95a, the color-coded bushings are available in “barrel” and cone styles, plus two different types of “insert cone bushings”: those with aluminum inserts and those with brass inserts, each in the large or small cone sizes. We’ve got a selection of White - X-Soft 73-A, Blue - Soft 85-A, Red - Med. Soft 90-A, Yellow - Med. Hard 92-A and Black - Hard 95-A bushings to use for tuning the decks we review, and we’ve already been using them to tune a 56” board built by Longboard Larry and to revisit the GFHurley “Cross Country”, among others. The quality and selection available from Khiro have made our lives easier and our skating more enjoyable.

Khiro also produces a rather staggering array of riser pads, from wafer-thin, decal-like soft risers up to 9/16” angled, hard risers. They’re all set with holes for both “old-” and “new”-school bolt patterns. So far, we’ve been able to wedge a few cambered boards, lower a mini for better handling and insulate the “Flux” lighted risers Khiro also sent us for another review.

Of course, the hardware kit will be consumed in short order, as we build up and tear down boards we’re reviewing, and in future reviews you will see some commentary about how we’ve tuned particular boards with Khiro products when we think it’ll be helpful to readers. We haven’t torn into the wedge-rail kit yet, but we’ve got a candidate in need of urgent attention…we’ll get back to you on that!
