Gentleman Jack Smith writes in to remind Silverfish Longboarding skaters about the epic skate event set for California’s Central Coast next weekend: elite skateboard racers from all over the U.S., Canada, and Europe will meet July 11-13 in Morro Bay, California, for the Seismic 2008 U.S. National Slalom Skateboarding Championships. National Champions in multiple divisions - kids, juniors, masters, amateurs and professionals both male and female - will be crowned in three disciplines: Slalom, Super G, Tight Slalom, Overall titles will also be awarded to the combined champion of each division and the racing will take place on infamous roads and courses, including Turri Road for the high-speed Giant Slalom. Seismic Skate Systems has stepped up as the prime sponsor of this event, along with Fatboy Longboards, Honey Skateboards and others to be posted soon.

Event Descriptions![]() CBark on Turri Rd. Photo: Farid Super G - Turri Road A high-speed event over a half-mile course on Turri Road. Racers will propel themselves off their choice of either a 12’ or 4’ tall starting ramp, then maneuver through approximately 35 cones. Speeds will be in the 35-40mph range. Yes, ithe 12-footer is Jonny Miller's giant ramp of gnar.
![]() Paul Dunn on Pacific St. Photo: Farid Hybrid Slalom and Tight Slalom – Pacific Street in Morro Bay Head to head racing at its finest. The Hybrid Slalom course features cones that are spaced 7 to 10 feet apart. In the Tight Slalom, cone spacing can be as close as 5’. It is not uncommon for racers to negotiate four to five cones per second. Racers are seeded into a double elimination bracket based on their Saturday qualifying times. Then it’s a matter of surviving the grueling double elimination format. Last racer standing…wins.
Special Events:One and Done 50 Cone Challenge - Morro Bay Harbor Walk On Friday evening on a brand new bike path that runs along the harbor on the way out to Morro Rock racers will launch off a starting ramp and blast through approximately 50 cones. No practice, one run only. Fastest times in each division wins.
