The IGSA North American Championships will be raced this weekend at Frank G. Bonelli Park in San Dimas, California.  Come to the Los Angeles foothills to race and spectate with competitors from across the globe, each out to grab some glory under what we hope will be sunny Southern California skies.  Downhill skateboard racers from Europe and Canada are registered to race alongside the "Colorado Contingent" and SoCal speedboarders.   If you've got leathers, a proper helmet and have checked them against IGSA's rules, you can bang elbows with them!  If you just want to watch speedboarders (and every other gravity racing class) rip it for the weekend, get on over there!!

This race includes “Continental Level” points for race winners and will be on the Via Verde, "Corner of Death Course".  This is the gently winding, half-mile course that leads directly into a 45mph, descending, 90-degree right turn that's off-camber, bumpy and the perfect place to test your leathers out!  IGSA lines the corner with enough mobile straw bales that the only thing dying there will be speed and podium standings, but the action is guaranteed to be hot.  Spectators will be able to see the racers descend the road as you see it in the photo above, then  -- maybe-- toss down serious, strategic braking and a lot of technical skill to carry the inside line virtually owned by Noah Sakamoto.

That's Sakamoto leading in this compilation photo.

The two-day event was originally planned for three, but has been reduced to accommodate budgets and concerns by the County Parks authorities.  Bonelli is a County Park, so they'll charge you about $7 bucks/car to get in, but spectating and attendance is free.  Enter on Via Verde, from the 57 freeway and just drive straight along the road after the entry shack... you'll dead-end at the race location.
