Coast Longboarding's "Danger Bay" event is in the books. Over the weekend, we received reports from the festivities, including the slide contest, the scene and, finally, the racing on Sunday. With 128 Racers in the queue, it was massive!
The weather held out for most of the day, finally letting loose with rain that slickened the famous "Carnage Corners" and led to numerous crashes as the semi-finals ran. In the end, it was King Brian taking the cash and top honors! Read through for more.
The famous Danger Bay course was fast and the racing furious...even moreso after the rains started. Haybales were well-used, as were the ambulances. At least one skater broke an ankle in a bad fall, word is that Rob McKendry snapped a thumb or wrist (?) and Chris Chaput's early domination of the event ended in the rainy semi's with a fall that badly dislocated the shoulder he'd recently damaged in New Mexico, earning him a 40 minute ride to the hospital. Once the rain began, the B.C. locals --already dangerously fast-- swapped onto RainHawgs and sported their famous rain-drift skills to dominate the podium and take the cash! Here's what we've got for results! Open Class: 1. Brian from Chiliwack 2. Jesse Tynan 3. Nate "Shnate" 4. Tom "Meatball" Edstrand 5. Jimmy "One Eye" Flindt Women's: 1. Brianne Davies 2. Carly Richardson Riley Meehan's got the first of the vids available on his site "BreakawayIndustries.com" and photos are just starting to hit the internet today, as racers and spectators emerge from the post-race party haze. In the "Race Striker for $500" one-on-ones, Bricin was unbeatable...until he got to Kludyville! Rick Kludy earned the right to race againt Striker by having his name drawn, and took full advantage of the opportunity. Striker had been unbeatable all morning until Rick swooped a win. Kluuuuudyville!! Photos here by Trystan! |
