Reviews written by Crowman Great front truck, Monday, 12 October 2009 Equipment Reviews How long have you ridden them?: 3 monthsWhat Setup are you running them on?: Wedged Original up front and Tracker RT-S in the back on a custom LDP style board. Typical Discepline?: Cruising, pumping, light downhill How much did you pay for them?: 35 for one Where did you buy them?: original.com What are their weaknesses?: Not very stable. When you use them for front and back, they feel sloppy. What are their strengths?: Super tight turning radius. Great to flick back and forth. Very pumpable. What similar equipment have you ridden?: None. Very distinctive. Would you recommend them?: Yes Holy crap these things turn hard, Friday, 28 August 2009 Equipment Reviews How long have you ridden them?: A few monthsWhat Setup are you running them on?: 38" old school fish shaped board with C7 up front and C2 in the back. Had to put in 3/4" risers to avoid wheelbite because the front truck turns so hard. 76mm Abec 11 Gumballs. Typical Discepline?: Carving hills, pumping flats, cruising How much did you pay for them?: $57 for the C7 Where did you buy them?: Amazon.com What are their weaknesses?: Clearly not stable enough to use for any serious downhill speeds, but then that is not what they are designed for. Considering the design, they are more stable than I expected. What are their strengths?: Amazingly tight turning radius. Super loose front allows surf-style slashbacks. So easy to pump it seems like cheating. What similar equipment have you ridden?: The only thing similar is the truck put out by Thruster USA, but the C7 is a much better truck. Would you recommend them?: Yes Really Expensive for What They Are, Friday, 20 March 2009 Very durable, heavy-duty gloves. They provide good protection for your entire hand and can be worn over wrist guards (an excellent option particulary when you are learning to slide). * THE BAD * They are really expensive for what they are. Seriously, you could make them for 1/4 of the price. They also look like a homemade project -- no sign of design or engineering. They get extremely hot in the summer since the material from which they are made is very thick. * BOTTOM LINE * I bought my Bear Paws at a time when they were pretty much the only game in town, and I was too new to boarding to realize I could make them myself quite easily. At $50 there are much better choices, including gloves with built in wrist protection and venting. Like the trucks but not the board, Thursday, 14 August 2008 Longboard Review How long have you ridden the board: Over a yearWhat is your setup like?: Still using the stock setup Typical Session Discipline: Carving, pumping, moderate hills How much did you pay?: 150 Where did you purchase it?: Original Online Store What were the strengths of the deck.: I really like Original trucks for carving. The trucks are the best part of the board. The tail is nice and usable. What were the weaknesses?: Cutouts limit your foot placement. I am used to having my front foot close to the front of the board for pumping leverage--the cutouts make that impossible. Have come to an abrupt stop several times when one of my feet encroached on the cutouts and caught a wheel. Stocks wheels are dead--really unresponsive. Similar decks you have ridden?: Thruster 385 (much better board than the Hybrid 35) Would you recommend it?: No Insane Turning Radius / Phenominal Pumping, Thursday, 03 July 2008 If you are a speed demon, look elsewhere. You will wind up a twisted wreck if you bomb on this board. Longboard Review How long have you ridden the board: About a monthWhat is your setup like?: Thruster front truck (stock). Revenge rear truck (stock). 78mm 80a Abec 11s. Typical Session Discipline: Carving light to medium hills / flatland pumping and crusing How much did you pay?: 190 Where did you purchase it?: Ronjon's What were the strengths of the deck.: Front truck (the one made by Thruster USA) is actuall a standard truck mounted on a spring-tensioned swing arm. This gives the board a turning radius of about 2 feet -- completely sick. Since the front truck is very carvey and the back is stiff, this is the best pumping setup I have ever used. The swing arm probably helps. What were the weaknesses?: Ease of turning leads to some instability. On the plus side, you can carve up hills while controlling speed. If you like bombing hills stay far away from this one. Did not like the stock wheels--too small for me. Similar decks you have ridden?: What you would get if you mated a longboard with a ripstic castor board. Super carvey like the stic but stable through turns like a longboard. Would you recommend it?: Yes << Start < Prev 1 Next > End >> Results 1 - 5 of 5 |
