Silverfish Longboarding.com is an open community of skateboarding fanatics around the globe. Founded at the turn of the century (that has a ring to it, don't it?), the site has evolved from a small group of core enthusiasts getting together with freeware BBS software running on a 386 server in our founder's kitchen to a rocking skate community where brand new skaters and pros rub elbows without ego or fanfare. The site originated in Florida, moved to Virginia and now runs on a cluster of blade servers located in RealPro Hosting's refrigerated cave in San Diego, California. Currently with over 180,000 registered members and averaging more than 45,000 unique visitors per day, "the 'Fish" has become the busiest skateboarding-related website on the internet other than a certain shoe company's site, according to Google.com.
Silverfish Longboarding.com hosts the single largest publicly-viewable archive of skateboarding photos and we're adding to it all the time, with photos shot around the world by members and the crew here at the 'Fish. The 'Fish maintains a free video gallery of over 17gb, all free and all available to members through an effective, open-sourced downloading system. Check it out at SkateTorrent.com!
Our Reviews section is populated with listings developed over many years, updated with the content from each new Concrete Wave Buyers' Guide. The Reviews offer the ability for consumers to read and provide their own comments and input about each product listed. Our very active Forums community includes active posting in a threaded, searchable format extending back to the year 2002.
The majority of Silverfish Longboarding.com members are in North America and the United Kingdom, but Google Analytics show significant traffic from the entire European Union, Australia, Japan, parts of China and 38 other countries around the world.! Imagine skating with 45,000 skaters a day! That's what participation on the 'Fish can do! Silverfish Longboarding.com has published over 1,000 articles on our "Front Page", which has become the place to read, even for manufacturers and vendors that don't otherwise participate.
We sponsor races, events and charities that we think make skateboarding and the world a better place. Our team cover races and events with professional photography and commentary, and we provide racers, athletes and participants with free, hi-res photos for non-commercial use. We also work with sponsors and vendors interested to use our photographs, charging very reasonable fees for the most current photographs you can get.
Silverfish Longboarding.com was founded with the intent to "spread the stoke" of longboarding around the world. The idea has caught on, and the community continues to grow --be a part of it!
