    Default DIY Longboarding Rack

    Haroow Silverfish,

Just thought i'd show you how i built my longboard rack, same as most designs i just go more in depth.

    Tools Needed:

    - Jig Saw
    - Pencil
    - Ruler (one with millimetres)
    - Circular Saw (i got mine cut by local plywood place for free but you can do it yourself)
    - Sand paper/Electric Sander
    - Drill and various bits
    - Eraser to rub off pencil marks

    Materials:

    - Plywood (mine is 17mm thick) You can use scrap wood if you have it lying around.
    - Screws, from memory mine were 30mm and 50mm
    - Another option is to use nails but you will need some strong would glue.

Okey Dokey - Measuring and Marking out.

A lot of this is up to you and is very customisable on how you want it, depending on how many longboards you hav (plan to have ) and if you want your longboards sticking out the front to grab or right in the slots. There is also the distance between each slot.

I have 4 boards and another one on the way so i did 6 slots and made it so the boards hang out the front 2-3 centimetres. For spacing i used the smallest board in my quiver and i don't plan to go any smaller was my Sodafactory Super Chilli so i measured out the wheelbase for that and made it quiet a bit shorter so they all fit nicely. Was 38cm wide to be exact

So if you want to copy mine here are the pictures/instructions:

For the sides you will need a piece of 17mm thick ply wood 165cm long and 35cm wide and the top/bottom are 58cm long (mine is spaced 38cm wide and i wanted 10cm of overhang on the top and bottom to act as a shelf and the bottom to be stable) and 35cm wide.

    1. Firstly doing the sides -

Start out by measuring 20cm down from the top, make a visible mark

    2. From that 20cm mark go down 3.5cm, make another mark (this 3.5cm is your board slot, make it wider/thinner to your needs. Mine is based around my Sodafactory DTap which with concave is 2.9cm thick)

    3. Now from the bottom of your 3.5cm mark go down another 8.5cm

    4. Now on that 8.5cm mark go in 23cm (again customisable, i made it so my DTap would hang out a 2cms, DTap is 25cm wide)

    5. Now at the end of your 23cm line go directly up 3.5cm as this will be the end of your board slot, you obviously want consistent width. (another thing customisable is if you want a rounded end but i chose not to and i didn't think they would all look the same)

    6. Now to finish off your board slot from the corner of the 23cm line and the top of that 3.5cm above it match them up with the marks on the other side (your 20cm mark down and your 3.5cm mark below it)

    7. This is what you should finish up with.

    8. Now to finish off the rest just go down 20cms from the bottom of the 3.5cm mark on the edge (bottom of your finished slot) and repeat.

    9. Now repeat for your other side, now remember if your wood has a good or bad side to do it so those are facing outwards and to also think out it before you cut/mark out you dont want on one side the slots facing up and the other down (i almost did that haha )

    Cutting out:

    1. Pretty straight forward using a jigsaw just go a long the lines you made with your board slot. To get the end out either use a chisel if you know what your doing or what i did was just cut both lines then curve it from one side to the opposite corner then clean it up.

You may want a friend to hold it down for you (a lot of vibrations)

I cut all the lines before actually knocking them out

    Part Two:

Here are your two finished sides:

Assembly: you will definatley need some help with this part from someone with hands not paws as it can get difficult, fairly easy though.

Just lay it on a flat surface with one side up and your top/bottom, line them up ( i had 10cm of overhang you so mark this out on that piece of wood, pre drill it through the top and into the side like so

If you have counter sunk screws then use a re-bate bit then insert a 50mm screw, do this twice on each side so you should have two screws each side so top and bottom. Total of 4 on each end.

Now your basically finished, i recommend putting a back on it or atleast some bracing to make it more solid. Easily done just cut it to size, mine was the total length of the rack and flush with the sides. I screwed it in using the same method but only 30mm screws.

    FINISHED:

    Without back

With back and boards in, other gear on top:

Thanks for reading, Feedback? Rep? Improvements? Yes i realise i dragged on a bit too but i didn't think i would skimp on details

What's that board under the Dtap? Never seen those trucks before and the wedging makes me all the more confused. Nice rack by the way (no homo).

Another thing if you wish to paint it a certain colour/stain it do it BEFORE you put it together, makes the job a heck of a lot easier to do and make sure you sand it down really well with a rough, medium then fine grit.

I got a CarveUSA Surfstik too. They are pretty fun!

But yo, nice rack. Have you put a board with deep concave on it yet? Your rack looks like it has similar slots cut out as mine. Deep concave didn't fit well on mine. Just a thought.

    Good job!

    Good job!
Well it was basically designed around my DTap and im about to buy a Lambchop and a Tutone Mega so it's not like either of them have a massive concave. It will fit a board up to 3.5cm thick with concave.

As i said the DTap with it's concave was 2.9mm and the slots are 3.5cm wide so quiet a bit of room and i don't think im ever going to buy a board with that much 'cave lol. I figure if i do end up doing that i can always shave a bit more off with the jigsaw.

    No problemo!

    Thanks for the positive feedback

Just a note i think you may want to make your slot's slightly larger, i'd say just go to 4cm. 3.5cm is about perfect for most boards and slides in real nice but that extra .5cm i think would be better. But measure your boards with the concave and customize it from there.

Haha yep that was in the plans to have a hook on either side for my helmet and slide gloves then the knee pads on top but never got around to it. They all fit nicely on top.

Draw wise i could of done one on the bottom but i just wanted it to be fairly simple and get it done quickly because my room my was a mess with mine + my friends longboards on the floor lol. Also the fact i spent ten minutes looking for either a slide glove or knee pad
