    Default Carbon fiber Prepreg Longboard

    Hi!

I just want to share some of my experiences with this build. This will be quite short but feel free to ask if you got some questions.

    Backgrund
I have done a carbonfiber build before using vacuum infusion but this time I got my hands on some Carbon prepreg. So I just had to make a second board using this awesome material. I wanted to make a board as short possible but with a comfortable stance.

    The build in short
I went to my local store to get a good feel for which kind of shape I wanted and I went for a quite mellow ride, not too aggressive concave. A freeride inspired twin deck.
I made the mould of mdf, milled it step by step and sanded it smooth.
I milled the foamecore as well, step by step and sanded smooth.
Now I applied all of the carbon layers, it is solid just around the truck holes and tapered into the middle of the board. It goes out into a single laminate at the sides with some extra layer for more comfortable handling while carrying it around.
Onto the mould, into a vacuum bag and into the oven with vacuum pressure for a good 7h.

    Aftertreatment
From the oven I started to cut out my desired shape with diamond blades. Regular steel blades won’t cut it(pun intended).
With the shape done a applied clearcoat…a lot of clearcoat. With sanding in between every layer, not much weight was actually added.
When the surface was smooth the sanding began…a lot of sanding. Began with a 200 paper, then 300, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000. And finally rubbing, polishing and waxing. Voilá.
After that I did a griptape job and mounted my rey trucks and flashback wheels.

That's a beauty. Nice work! Did you say it has a wood core?

That's a sweet board. Know how long clear coating takes. Great job.

When I was at Landyachtz we cut out foamcore with a CNC machine. I don't understand your issue with what he said. The material feels similar to styrofoam in its brittle and light nature, and it isn't something you inject into a form.

@Hoden That deck is all kinds of awesome. Nice work!

Hi sorry to bring up dead post, but how many layers of carbon fiber layers did you use for the board?
