Probably going to contact moonshine directly on this as I'm curious too. I can't imagine it's "flexy" but it could have a tad more flex than the rumrunner and hooch. I'll report back what I find...

    Hello guys,
I've been longboarding for only about 6 months and ever since I started I've been riding a Landy Switchblade 38". I am finally starting to get more confident to throw some standies at faster speeds (I know it's quite a long time but I am almost 37 and I work and study, so you get the picture...) and I thought it might be time to get a new freeride board. I decided that I need something with a big rocker/radial drop and mean concave, so that I can still sort of feel that my feet are locked in because otherwise the deck would feel too different from the Switchblade. I think I was able to narrow down my choices to:

    Omen Airship, Barfight or Sugar
    Original Vecter or Baffle

In your opinion, which one would suit me better? Please have in mind that I am 5'11" and I weigh about 170lbs.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long text. Feel free to suggest other decks if you wish.

@freefalling They're all similar and well suited to your height, symmetrical, really just with subtle differences apart from teh sugar which has a kick. I can't make your mind up for you and you won't find too many fans of the Original decks on the fish. I own both Original and Omen boards and really like the Omen build quality and designs. A lot of their decks have really subtle detail that makes a big difference ... they understand skaters better and they're helpful too.

@dubman Thanks a lot for the input. I am more and more leaning towards the Airship.

Just one question though, which truck is more likely to give me wheel bite, my 50º Paris II or my 42.5º cRonin? (And yes, I know it depends mostly on the size of the wheels).

Paris 50s are taller than cRonins so less chance of bite from the off. Nothing to stop you getting some risers for the cRonins if required. Choices choices

All of those would be great, options, and are pretty similar in terms of concave. I would probably go Sugar purely for the tail :3 The more subtle differences you'd need to compare against your stance and how wide it is.

To throw some alternative choices into the mix, I wouldn't discount something like a Landy Tomahawk. The microdrop (that you probably can't see from pictures) may feel more at home to you coming from a switchblade. Also if you're going for super locked in, the Rayne Darkside series has some pretty aggressive concave with rocker as well.

@FloatTheGoat Thanks for the recommendations. I'd already looked into the Rayne Darkside and although I think they are awesome, their drop/rocker is minimal. I know a guy who is selling one used but in great condition, really cheap so I might grab it just to give it a try but I am almost sure I won't like it.

Something like a stiff SK mini around 31/32" long, ~9.5" wide at foot pockets, ~20" wheelbase, and easily ollieable. Also somewhat decent wheel clearance up to 70mm wheels. Plan on taking it to parks/bowls, city streets, and slide jams.

Never really considered mini's properly, but tried a guys squealer at a slide jam and it was the ****.

You might like the EW team 33. An inch longer than you stated, but it's all nose, and the width and wb's are about where you want them. Great for all the things you stated, and can handle the 70mm wheels with no more than 1/8" riser (I've run 65's on it loose with none)

    Hello all,

I'm looking to get my second board and looking for recommendations/help.

I currently have a 41" EW Supermodel topmount and while it's great for going fast, it's a little too long and heavy for slower stuff and just riding around/pushing. I do like the symmetrical shape and wheel cutouts, but would like to get a smaller (around 36" maybe) dropthrough board to try something new. Will be using the board for some cruising, carving, and light sliding.

I was considering either the Never Summer Wingman or LY Maple Drop Hammer. Any experience with either? Or any other suggestions for under around $100 not including grip?

    I'm 5'7", 130 lb.

    Thanks!

Check out the earthwing scavenger and roadkiller. Similar molds to the current supermodel (probably not to yours if it's 41") but shorter at 35" and both have a micro-dropped platform (the scavenger is also drop-thru, I'd look at the roadkiller for a ride height closer to where you are now, or the scavenger if you think you could go lower, or just prefer drop thru mounting for whatever reason).

Out of curiosity, is your supermodel an 8 or 9 ply version (I believe there was a 9 ply version at one point). If it's the 9, either the scavenger, roadkiller, or new supermodel which is now a bit shorter at 38" will all be a bit lighter as they are 8 ply, and still plenty stiff given your light weight.

Hope this helps, earthwing is just a really worthwhile brand in my experience, hence my suggestions

Thanks, I looked those up. They look fairly similar, leaning more toward the scavenger just to try a lower setup. Just gotta wait till my next paycheck...

I believe my deck is an 8 ply, bought it in 2014 I think.
