Edit: Highest point in DC is Fort Reno. Lowest point is the Tidal Basin. Over 400 feet in elevation differential between the two points. Now to ban cars from DC...

Tip: next time that you know you're going skating, post the time and location here. It worked for me once!

I don't make it to DC often, but when I do, I prefer to go longboarding.

Hey DC guys/gals check it out!

The Baltimore-Washington Cook N' Cruise has been relocated to Mount Vernon trail in DC. This is a charity event to raise funds for The Family Tree, which is a non-profit organization in MD which helps to prevent child abuse and neglect. It is a 15 mile cruise down the Patomic VA's shoreline with some of the nicest scenery around (especially with the cherry blossoms this time of year). If you've got a pumper, bring it. After the cruise there will be a cookout, so bring your appetite too! There is a suggested $5 donation for participation which goes towards the charity.

We will also be raffling off gear that has been donated to the event by our sponsors. $1 donation=1 raffle ticket. All proceeds go to The Family Tree. Items that will be raffled are:

    Clutch Lambchop Hempstar Deck
    Original Arbiter 36
    Bertz 60mm wheels
    Gunmetal Rounds bearings
    Rush Abec 5 bearings
    Original Skateboards t-shirt
Abec 11 sticker pack w/ limited edition Abec 11 sunglasses
Orangatang sticker pack w/ limited edition Abec 11 sunglasses.

Please visit the SF event thread to view details and receive updates:

    Hope to see you there!

What is a good (FB) site w longboard info on DC? Will be visiting Sunday-Wednesday, looking for some spots/people/stores and trying to figure out which of my decks or wheels to bring. Cruise set up? Slide, DH? Thanks for any info. And no, I won't be doing any spot blow outs...I am a female 45+ skater. I read about the hill in the park and the trail (how flat is that trail, mostly a push and cruise thing?) but don't know much else. Also would be interested in bowl/skatepark. Thanks and I'll return the favor if you come to central TX!

    Hi,

Me and my kid started longboarding a while back as a fun and fast way for my son to compensate for a mobility impairment & associated pain from way too many surgeries (longer thread about that is here: https://www.silverfishlongboarding.c...abilities.html).

Soon, we're hitting museums around the Mall in DC.

Anyone have any advice about if we should bother bringing the longboards?

Typically, in strange cities, we're just chasing my hubby as he does marathons & triathlons ... So we take 24-27 cruiser length boards around strange cities and carry crap in/on backpacks if we go briefly inside a store but museums aren't the same thing and we don't want to be told we can't go into museums if we have backpacks, boards, helmets, etc.

Thanks for any advice! (Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question)

I've skated in dc many times and there are lots of bike lanes and paths to get around. Backpacks are fine in most museums, but boards can cause problems unless you tie them to your backpacks or whatever, so smallish cruisers are your best bet

rest of my boards were stolen :(
