I've gotten 2+ hours sessions in each day this week.

Trying to make some progress but it's slow, as you know.

Two sessions today at two different parks. Over three hours of pumping around and fallin' down. Day is still early so I'll probably get another go later.

I feel like I'm talking to an empty room....

I've been skating my 9 inch deck with 60mm wheels these last few weeks. I am mostly skating small quarters (3-5 feet tall) so I'm thinking I might get a smaller deck with a smaller wheelbase. My two current decks have a 15 inch WB.

I'm looking at decks with a 14.25 WB that are 8.5 wide. I'll be running the Rainskates 57's on it. (which i find to be fast but slippery, compared to the Time Flys on the 9 inch deck)

    thoughts?

oh yea, record highs this week an air quality that is worse than Beijing and I've skated everyday.

    Sorry for being nosy;

    Why reduce your wheelbase?
I was under the impression that the smaller (<=15) where primarily for tricks, while the 15+ were more for vert/tranny/other.

Personally, I kiss the cement more with anything under 15.
My sweet spot is 16 (+-.50").

Like i said earlier, just curious.

I need a new 8.5 deck and want to try something different. The park I skate the most has a 3 foot (MAYBE 3.5) quarter and flat banks. A quicker board might be fun? Or deadly...

I'm also over the rainskate wheels. They're far too slippery for me.

    Any suggestions for wheels?

Which of our Rainskates wheels are you running? Weren't you on some 98a 57-X's? That formula is well known for being grippy with speed. if you want the security of more grip, try the 59mm 95a Mini Tsunamis or, if you can handle the size, the 62mm 92a Kakus. Go with a single conical, which have a wider contact patch & therefore more grip. Since you already bought a set of our wheels that you're not liking, I'd be happy to sell you your next set at wholesale cost + shipping. We want our customers to be happy!

That's a pretty narrow board for learning park skating. More of a freestyle/trick board size. What's the wheelbase?

It's much easier learning on a little wider board. I'd go up to 9" wide board. I've taught several new park skaters who started on too narrow boards, moved them up to a wider board with a little longer wheelbase & they improved immediately.

The room is not empty. Work and summer has been so busy I've done little skating but I enjoy reading your posts so don't stop. I also like wider decks 9-9.5 and 16-16.5 WB in the parks and pools. I have Hornets on the board I use to ride on mostly wood and skatelite and they are nice on those surfaces. On some concrete pools they do slip some times so I have another setup dedicated to the pools.

skated four different parks today. I track my miles with Strava. 18 miles in total. haha.

SDO, thanks for the offer. that's awesome. I skated the same board/wheels today (and yesterday, three hours at the same park) and they seem to be getting more grippy. not sure why they were so damn slick the other two days. I'm gunna keep rolling on these wheels for now.

Progression is slow but I know I'm improving. Frontside carves are feeling a lot better. I still have some dumb issues with coping. On small quarters (2 feet and under) I can 50-50 stall with confidence. As soon as I move up to a bigger quarter, I can't do sh1t. It's like, at 3mph I am in control. at 5 mph, I'm fcked.

    whatever. Having fun either way.

Hitting the park tonight after work. Got this setup not long ago. I do have rainskates but they're on my Skaterbuilt. This is my first popsicle type board.

Got about an hour and a half in this morning.

    Skated this place
    Seattle (Judkins), Washington Skatepark

(not sure if I should post the parks I'm hitting up. Don't get any crazy ideas about moving out here, WA is FULL. haha)

It has a little snake run that ends up about six feet deep. I can carve backside with some decent(for me) speed but front side I need to go a bit slower. Feels great though! I couldn't do that six months ago.

I grabbed a new deck from the local shop today. Didn't have time to ride it but did swap my trucks and get the grip on it.

Tony09 - how big is that deck?

Here's the specs. I was having a little bit of a tough time adapting to the symmetrical deck, especially with the front foot wheel flares. Just wasn't sure where to get comfy lol. I think I found the spot last night

    wow. that thing is huge.

Got an hour and half in session this morning.

Went to my favorite tiny park. It's almost always empty and nothing is over 4 feet tall.

New deck feels great. I really like the shorter WB. At least for this tiny park. Very responsive deck.

    Wow. that pool looks sick!

I got 1.5 hours at the tiny park today. It's always empty so that's 1.5 hours of me pushing and pumping. If nothing else, I'm burning calories.

Early to bed tonight so I can get up and skate! I set the coffee maker up so I can get to the park ASAP, come mornin'.

Two hour sesh this morning. I have to fight traffic at the time I go so that kinda sucks. All those suckers trying to get to the job they hate and I just wanna skate!

    Seattle (Judkins), Washington Skatepark

Made some progress on my backside stalls on metal coping, on a 'bigger' quarter. Front side carves in the bowl at the end of the snake run feel awesome. I don't have to lift my front wheel to get the complete carve. And I can get out of the snake run with pretty good speed.

I'm really just rolling around the park (no airs, no gnar grinds, no tail stalls, etc) but I'm having a damn good time doing it.

I'm also really liking the shorter wheel base on this new board.
