You can carve off speed and slide. Sliding on a shorter board can be a little quicker I guess but after a little practice you get used to it.
    thanks, sounds doable

Ordered myself a Subsonic Killroy 33. I think that will do the job.

The Killroy is a nice DH/Slalom hybrid board. Depending on the setup it can be drifted no problem.(I.E. setup like most downhill boards rather than a slalom setup on the board)

Just purchased my first slalom deck, at first was between a Subsonic Killroy and Kebbey Pierre Gravel, but suddenly boom, Rayne Oracle (Switzer's Maryhill deck), at CAD $105 (including shipping) which I believe it was quite a bargain.
Now for the trucks, I was thinking on the basics into slalom, 129mm Trackers rtx/rtx sounds fine to me.
What do you think? Should I consider playing with Bennets, Randals 125?

yes. a bennet 4.3 or a randal 125 (cut down & spherical are good mods) are a much better option than a tracker for the front, stick to a 106mm tracker rt-s on the rear. if you want to do more a DH setup rather than slalom, then do randal 125 50º front and 35º back.

let me get this straight, for a more slalom oriented setup a bennet 4.3 or a randal 125(for the Randal 125 what degree?) (cut down & spherical are good mods) are good trucks for the front and their should be a 106mm tracker rt-s on the rear. But for a More DH oriented setup their should be a randal 125 50º front and 35º back. <----- Do these require sphericals?

you could run randals front and back for slalom, but you should run a narrower hanger so milling it to at least 120/118mm and adding a spherical improve the performance big time. it will require massive de-wedging and longer bolts, unless you use a cindrich bp, because you need to get that 35ºbp to about 20º. also because the randal hanger has an offset axle it will reduce the actual wheel base, if you want to run rkp is much better to go straight to sk8king trucks, radikals, gog's... because the in-line axle gives you much better grip and response for a rear truck.

the rt-s requires no mod, other than replace kp with larger one, it only requires about 10º of de-wedging and it is a decent truck you can race on for under $25.

I bet you'll be able to find some slalom boards here: http://www.silverfishlongboarding.co...om-setups.html

Check out fullbag and skatekings. Subsonic, kebbek, and beesknees also make slalom boards. I'm sure drang could make you one as well.

I also saw two riders at Sopelana open downhill with carvers and one with a slalom setup. I was like wtf are you doing? I still don't understand why did they use those setups

Well, I believe that road isn't THAT fast and has lots of curves, making it perfect for slalom setups, not sure about carvers but I guess you can still play with the bushing setup. With slalom setups you can take lines you usually can't with longboards, this makes a HUGE difference while racing.

The palisades hornet with performers and a Bennett/tracker setup would be my ideal first GS setup.

How should I set up my Rayne Libido for downhill? I can choose from Bennetts, Trackers and Randals with low degree bps. I also have a lot of wedges and plan to use Centrax
