Here's a Bonus Post on a deck I was excited to find, a Woodcarver!

Back in the day, a Rep stopped by our skate shop, selling boards by a company named Woodcarver. The board was basically a wood copy of the Z-flex Jay Adams deck, with some minor changes (such as a pointier nose & rounded tail). The boards were well made, with nice wheelwells. We bought 5-6 of them to see how they'd sell. They sold well, being pretty durable & with a nice overall shape & design.

When we went to re-order more, we couldn't contact the Rep or the company. Like many brands of the 70's that came & went very quickly, we assumed they had closed up shop. Over the years, I've told a lot of other skaters & collectors about this brand & board, but nobody else had ever heard of them.

40 years go by & I see a For Sale ad on Skull & Bones. A very generic "Decks For Sale" listing. I decided to take a look. Most everything were more modern popsicles, but then here was this Woodcarver deck I'd talked about for years! I contacted the seller to see what he knew about it, which turned out to be absolutely nothing. He thought he had bought it at a garage sale or something. I made him an offer & purchased the deck. Finally I had my "mystery deck" from the 70's! I held it up to a Z-Flex Adams deck & sure enough, the shape was almost identical. My old memory of this deck was dead-on.

Here's my NOS 30" x 8" Woodcarver deck. Hope you dig it.

For Week #122, we'll re-visit an old favorite from one of the best-known brands of the past & now, Santa Cruz!

Board #140 is a 31" Santa Cruz 5 Ply deck. This one is equipped with ACS 580's & Tunnel Super Rocks.

I wasn't really into these decks initially back in the day, but I always dug their multi-color graphics. However, after Henry Hester gave me a couple of these longer versions after I helped him recover his personal park & slalom Santa Cruz decks from a car break-in, I found they were nice riders.

Having 27" & 29" versions, which I've shared in earlier weeks, I've been trying to find the longer 31" version & finally did. Enjoy!

To answer a question from a couple members, yes, the Super Rocks were the later follow-on to the Tunnel Rocks. They came out later.

There are only two decks still on my REALLY WANT list from what I had decades ago. One from very late 70s/early 80s is a Mill City deck. Several of my friends from the MPLS area had them because the first skatepark pro shop there around 1980 sold them.

I'd also like to have back my Santa Cruz Stinger mid 80s deck. I gave it away when I moved to NC. Was a sick deck with Gullwing Pro IIIs and Sims Street Wheels. Should have made room for it. Had I done so I probably wouldn't have started collecting though.. Everything so far was parked by the void that formed when I realized I shouldn't have given that away.. All good though really. I now have lots of really cool stuff in my collection and hopefully the younger kid I gave that to got some stoke out of it. Who knows, it might be hanging on someone's wall somewhere. Although it was in rough shape when I got it which required re painting the bottom. Top was still good, under clear pizza grip.

Thanks for sharing, but it sounds like those are more 80's decks, than the 70's decks this thread is about.

Sorry about the babbling about the Stinger.

Mill City was late 70s. Ever seen one??

No doubt there are a few in attics and basements around the Twin Cities but not many beyond that area.

    Nope.

Probably had a regional following, but little known outside there. Same with the Arrowsmith deck posted above. If you were from Texas, you knew all about them, otherwise you probably never heard of them.

Photobucket hasn't worked well for the past couple years & now they want $399 a year to do 3rd Party Hosting of pics! Sorry, no dice, Photobucket.

I refuse to pay that, so they are holding all my pics in this thread hostage. I'm sorry this vintage skateboard photo resource has been lost, due to Corporate Greed.

I dropped off photobucket three or four years ago when they couldn't resolve a cookies or flash issue on my PC that was unique to their upload tool for me. Moved to other sites and facebook. Went back to P-Bucket to check it out last week since I am now using a different PC and the upload issue is no longer an issue. Looks like I'm at about 78% of the free space allowed there. Guess I'll just keep on using other places. Thanks for the heads up. I never imagined they'd lock your photos if you reach 100%. I just thought they'd disable uploads for me at that point (again) but leave all the links working.

Too many damned ads there too... Took forever for the junk to load before it the pages on the site are functional.

I'm only at 55% full, so it has nothing to do with your free space. If you're doing 3rd party hosting (linking pics to websites), they are shutting you down.

That sucks balls. The whole point of 99.99999% of their users is to post links on other forums. The price we pay is being subjected to a bazillion ads while waiting for the page to finish loading to upload more photos or grab the links. They have changed their marketing strategy and it will be their demise. Facebook and others give you free space (with other strings attached like using your content for their own and other 3rd party ads) so that 99.99999% of the other users will also be gone before paying $300.
